THE FOLLOWING HYMNS WERE COMPOSED BY CHARLES WESLEY IN EXTREME OLD AGE. THE SECOND HYMN WAS HIS

LAST UTTERANCE IN VERSE, AND WAS

DICTATED ON HIS DEATH-BED.

1116

I

The aged disciple's prayer.

L. M.

TOO, forewarned by Jesus' love,
Must shortly lay my body down;
But ere my soul from earth remove,
O let me put thine image on!
2 Saviour! thy meek and lowly mind
Be to thine aged servant given;
And glad I'll drop this tent, to find
My everlasting house in heaven.

[blocks in formation]

Charles Wesley.

IN age and feebleness extreme,

L. M. 61.

Who shall a helpless worm redeem?
Jesus, my only hope thou art,

Strength of my failing flesh and heart:
O could I catch one smile from thee,
And drop into eternity!

SING we to our God, above;

NING we to our God above,

Praise him, all ye heavenly host,
Father, Son, and Holy Ghost!

ORAISE the name of God most high;
Praise him, all below the sky;

Praise him, all ye heavenly host,

As through countless ages past,
Evermore his praise shall last.

On the same eternal throne:
Endless praises

To Jehovah, Three in One!

PRAISE the God of our salvation;

Praise the Father's boundless love;

Praise the Lamb, our expiation;
Praise the Spirit from above,
Author of the new creation,

Him by whom our spirits live;
Undivided adoration

To the one Jehovah give!

Josiah Conder, alt.

The Three in One, the One in Three;

Holy, holy, holy Lord,

All glory be to thee!

Charles Wesley.

TO God, the Father, Son,
And Spirit, Three in One,
All praise be given!
Crown him, in every song;
To him your hearts belong:
Let all his praise prolong,
On earth, in heaven!

TO Father, Son, and Spirit,
Ascribe we equal glory;

One Deity, in Persons Three,
Let all thy works adore thee:
As was from the beginning,
Glory to God be given,

By all who know thy name below,
And all thy hosts in heaven.

O thee be praise forever,
Thou glorious King of kings!

Each ransomed spirit sings:
We'll celebrate thy glory,
With all thy saints above,
And shout the joyful story
Of thy redeeming love.
