Who would not love the Lamb? 2 He has done more than Moses did, 3 In the Red Sea, by Moses' hand, The Egyptian host was drowned; But His own blood hides all our sins, And guilt no more is found. 4 When through the desert Israel went, Our faith doth feed on Christ the Lord, 5 Moses beheld the promised land, Yet never reached the place; [home, But Christ shall bring His followers To see His Father's face. 6 Then shall our love and joy be full, And sweeter voices tune the song C.M. 284 Come unto me all ye that labour, and are heavy laden.-Matt. 11, 28. 1 HEARD the voice of Jesus say, Come unto me and rest; Lay down, poor weary one, lay down Weary and worn and sad; 2 I heard the voice of Jesus say, The living water, thirsty one, [revived, My thirst was quenched, my soul And now I live in Him. 3 I heard the voice of Jesus say, I am this dark world's Light; I looked to Jesus and I found THE HOLY SPIRIT: HIS WORK AND WORSHIP. C.M. 285 He shall give you another Com forter.-John 14, 16. 10 His tender, last farewell, UR blest Redeemer, ere He breathed A Guide, a Comforter, bequeathed, 2 He comes, the mystic heavenly dove, 3 He comes, sweet influence to impart, Where He can find one humble heart 4 And His that gentle voice we hear, (fear, That checks each fault, that calms each 5 And every virtue we possess, 6 Spirit of purity and grace, O make our hearts Thy dwelling-place, 78. 286 The Comforter... whom I will send unto you.-John 15, 26. 1 JEsut His promise still is here: ESUS is gone up on high, I will all your wants supply; 2 Let us now His promise plead, L.M. 287 The Spirit gave them utterance.— Acts 2, 4. 1 GREAT was the day, the joy was great, When the divine disciples met; Whilst on their heads the Spirit came, And sat like tongues of cloven flame. 2 What gifts, what miracles He gave ! And power to kill and power to save! Furnished their tongues with wondrous words, Instead of shields and spears and swords. 3 Thus armed Hesent the champions forth From east to west, from south to north: Go, and your Saviour's cross proclaim; Go, teach all nations in My name. 4 These weapons of the holy war, 5 Nations, the learned and the rude, Are by these heavenly arms subdued ; While Satan rages at his loss And hates the doctrine of the cross. 6 Great King of grace! my heart subdue: I would be led in triumph too, A willing captive to my Lord, And sing the victories of His word. 288 If I depart, I will send Him unto 1 you.-John 16, 7. NTHRONED on high, Almighty Lord, Fulfil in us Thy faithful word, And all Thy mercies crown. 2 Though on our heads no tongues of fire 3 Spirit of life, and light, and love, 4 To our benighted souls reveal And bring us where no clouds conceal 5 His love within us shed abroad, S.M. 289 Wait for the promise of the Father. -Acts 1, 4. 1 LORD God, the Holy Ghost, In this accepted hour, 2 As on the day of Pentecost, We meet with one accord In our appointed place, And wait the promise of our Lord, The Spirit of all grace. 3 Like mighty rushing wind Upon the waves beneath, Move with one impulse every mind; One soul, one feeling breathe. 4 The young, the old inspire With wisdom from above; 5 4 6 And give us hearts and tongues of fire, To pray and praise and love. Spirit of Light, explore And chase our gloom away, With lustre shining more and more Spirit of Truth, be Thou, C.M. 290 The love of God shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost.-Rom. 5, 5. 1 COME, Holy Spirit, heavenly Dove, With all thy quickening powers, Kindle a flame of sacred love In these cold hearts of ours. 2 Look how we grovel here below, 3 In vain we tune our formal songs, Hosannas languish on our tongues, 4 Dear Lord! and shall we ever lie Our love so faint, so cold to Thee, 5 Come, Holy Spirit, Heavenly Dove, L.M. 291 As many as are led by the Spirit of 1 God.-Rom. 8, 14.
