5 A fight of Jefus on the crofs

Makes all this world appear as drofs :
Lord, what are earthly things to me,
But clouds that part my foul and thee!
O tune my foul for fongs above;'
Increase my light, inflame my love,
6 Never did angels taste above

Redeeming grace, and dying love.
Worthy is Christ our bleffed Lamb,
That bore for men the cross and shame,
On God's eternal throne to reign,
Since he for us was pierc'd and flain.

HYMN XXI.

Know, Jesus only.

1 JOIN, ye tribes of ransom❜d men,
With hearts and tongues to fing,
Worthy's the Lamb that was flain
To be our Lord and King:
Let mens wills unto him bow,
Since out of love for men he dy'd:
Only Jefus will I know,

And Jefus crucify'd.

2 For our fins Chrift's blood was fpilt, His foul did torments feel:

If we mourn not for our guilt,

Our hearts are hard as fteel.

Lord, caufe tears from hearts to flow : O pity them whofe hearts are dry'd. Only Jefus will I know,

3

And Jefus crucify'd.

Sin I fhun with all its charms,
Since it would me destroy :
Take me, Lord, into thy arms,

Me fafe to heav'n convoy;

While I travel here below,

Still keep me near thy pierced fide."

4

Only Jefus will I know,

And Jefus crucify'd.

Earth affords not my chief good,

In Chrift my blifs doth ly;

Earth's vain dreams mens hearts delude,

Its arts I do defy :

[blocks in formation]

Empty world, I thee let go,
Adieu to all thy pomp and pride.
Only Jefus will I know.
And Jefus crucify'd.

5 Earth I quit for rest above,
Below there's nothing fure:
Chrift I make my Lord, my Love;
In him my all's fecure.
O let faith ftill in me grow,
All vanities I'll lay afide.
Only Jefus will I know.
And Jefus crucify'd.

HYMN XXII.

A Saint chufes not to stay behind CHRIST.

1 IN the wine-prefs of God's wrath
My deareft Lamb was crush'd;
There he groan'd and bled to death,
Yea, low was laid in dust :

But he rofe, to fhew his love;

To plead for us, to heav'n he's gone.
Since my bead and heart's above,
Why Ray I here to groan?

2 Friend of finners, King of faints,
Plead for me with thy blood;
While I'm in the land of wants,
Still fend me heav'nly food:
My heart-plagues do thou remove,
Of them to thee I make my moan.
Since my head and heart's above,
Why Stay I here to groan?

3 Into Jefu's hands I fall,

By faith I thee embrace;
King of glory hear me call,
And heal me by thy grace;
Let thy Spirit in me move,
To fix
my faith on Chrift alone.
Since my head and heart's above,
Why Stay I here to groan?

4 Lord, thou fay'ft, I quickly come;

Saints for thy coming pray :

While thou ftay'ft, I'm far from home;

Lord Jefus, come away ;

Оп

On things earthly I'll not rove, Like Chrift among them there is none. Since my bead and heart's above, Why Stay I here to groan?

HYMN XXIII.

The Fountain of CHRIST's Blood.

I WE blefs God for this matchless blood,
Which to us freely ftreams,

And fallen men from fin and hell
Moft powerfully redeems.

2 Eternal thanks to God's dear Son,
Who pour'd this ftreaming flood,
To wash from fin, and to enfure
Our fouls eternal good,

3 Bethfeda, Jordan, Siloam's pool,
Are vain, they do no good

For cleanfing fouls, or purging fins,
As doth this divine blood,

4 Come, leprous fouls, to this new pool,
And bathe yourselves therein :

Why should you die, when God provides
This remedy for fin?

5 Unto this open fountain bring

My finful foul, O God,

And all my spotted garments cleanse
In my Redeemer's blood.

6 Upon this remedy divine

Alone my hopes are built:

This many thousand fouls have tried,
It purg'd away their guilt.

7 Give accefs, Lord, unto thy blood,
And faith to wash, till I

Be purify'd and throughly clean
From all iniquity.

8 Praise for the doctrine of free grace,

Which Jefu's gospel founds;

Praise for free love, and cleansing blood
That flows from Jefu's wounds.

HYMN

HYMN XXIV.

CHRIST our PASSOVER Sacrificed for us.

ILY at the foot of Jefu's crofs,
See what the Lamb endur'd;
Contemplate there his bleeding wounds,
Which life to us procur'd.

2 Sore wounds and bruifes, ftripes and pain,
With fearful agony,

Did he endure to ranfom us
From endless mifery.

3 Jefus our paffover is flain,
And for us facrific'd;

The tokens of thy death remain,
Let thefe by us be priz'd,

4 A feaft upon this facrifice

Thou haft on men bestow'd,
Where we may feed upon thy flesh,
And drink thy precious blood.
5 Thanks to our God, who loved us,
And look'd on finking men,
And for us found a facrifice,
The Lamb for finners flain.

6 A facrifice that's infinite
Thy juftice did demand,

Ere guilty men fhould be forgiv'n,-
Or they in judgment stand.
Behold how mercy interpos'd
In this nonpluffing case,
And fent the Lamb our paffover
To bleed in finners place!
8 Till we afcend to Christ above,
And fully fhare thy feast,

9

We'll fit content beneath thy cross,
And blefs thee for a tafte.

Dear Lamb, fhine on our folemn days,
Thy prefence makes the feast:

Come fill our hearts with love, and joy
That cannot be expreft.

HYMN XXV.

2 Father of mercies, God of love,
May thou be still ador'd,

3 O Son of God, we thee do blefs,
That freely undertook
To be a Ranfomer, to fave
All who to thee do look.
Hallelujah, &c.

4 Unto the Lamb, our Saviour-God,
Let praises ftill increase;

For thro' thy precious wounds and blood
Comes all our happiness.
Hallelujah, &c,

5 O Holy Ghoft, we thee exalt,

Who doft with finners ftrive,

Till they be brought to close with Chrift,
And made in him alive.

Hallelujah, &c.

6 We praise thee, O thou promis'd Dove, Who, as. Chrift faid, art come

7

To raise our dead fouls unto life,
And fafely guide us home.
Hallelujah, &c.

Το purge our guilt, and buy our peace,

God fent his Son to bleed;

His blood procur'd a treasure full

To answer all our need.

Hallelujah, &c.

8 Thanks to our heav'nly Father's love,
Who gave the Lamb to men:
The Lamb we praife, and Spirit too,
These Three in One. Amen.
