My drouzy frame I do abhor;
Awake me, that I fleep no more.
4 A feeble helpless creature I
Do at thy pleasure live or die:
O lift the rod, thy wrath remove,
My heart fubdue to thee by love;
My fins forgive, and to me turn:
Spare me, for fin to weep and mourn,
5 Lord, rule my heart, and in me live,
And let no darling luft furvive :
O bring my wand'rings to an end,
That fo my thoughts may upward tend.
Thy feeble duft with pity fee;
It mints and creeps to win to thee.
6 O Father of my dying Lord,
Fulfil to me his gracious word:
Thy Spirit grant, for which he pray'd;
His influences on me fhed.

Nothing but fin I thee can give;
But quicken me, and I fhall live.

Give Thanks for REDEEMING LOVE:

Į FATHER, thy love fhines in thy Son;
Thou gav'ft him, tho' thou had'st but one,
To ranfom a rebellious race,

And us tranflate from fin to grace.
O, for his fake, our fins remove,
And we'll exalt redeeming love.
2 Dear Jefus bore the fins of men;
Th' immortal God, the Lamb was flain.
Eternal bleffings on the Lamb,
Let angels trumpet out his fame;
With angels bright, and faints above,
We'll join, and fing his dying love.
We thee adore, O Chrift the Son,
Who with thy Father dear art One,
And One the Holy Ghost with thee,
The One Eternal God in Three:
O make us meet with faints above

To magnify redeeming love..

Thou faw'ft that all our pow'r was gone,
And to redeem us there was none :

If

If for us thou wouldst not atone,
Eternally we were undone ;

Therefore thou left thy throne above,
Vail'd thy perfections all but love.
5 For us thou pray'd, for us waft flain,
For us thou lives and reigns again;
For us thy blood did once atone,
And now it pleads before thy throne.
To Jefus only we do fly,

And on his facrifice rely.

6 For us Chrift lives to intercede,
For us he doth this moment plead :
"Forgive their thoughts and actions.too;
"Father, they know not what they do."?
Lord, fince our Surety paid the debt,
Our fouls from wrath at freedom fet.

CHRIST'S Incarnation wonderful,

1 JESUS, immortal Son of God,
Thou chofe with mortals thy abode,
A virgin's womb thou didst not scorn:
Angels are ftruck to fee thee born;
Thee, who the earth's foundation laid,
A little fucking infant made.

2 Him whom the heav'ns cannot contain,
Behold a woman's knees fuftain.

Great God, all praise we offer thee,
That thou vouchfaf'ft à man to be,
To fave loft men from wrath and fin,
That we might heaven enter in.

3 Let all admire that divine love,

Which brought thee from thy throne above,
Our flesh and frailties to affume,

To die, and ly within a tomb;

That ftrangers, who were far from God,
Might be brought nigh by Jefu's blood.
4 Of him who did falvation bring,
Continually I think and fing;

The Lamb fhall be my conftant theme,
I'll fing his birth, his blood and name ;
The Lamb is worthy that was flain,
On God's eternal throne to reign,

Us

[ocr errors]

5 Us he did love when enemies;
To fave us, on the cross he dies.
'Tis finish'd, with loud voice he cry'd
"You're fafe, my friends, for all is paid;
And, as my blood doth now atone,
"It goes to plead before the throne,"
6 No angel's tongue can ever tell
The glory of Immanuel

O, for his fake, my fins forgive,
And let repenting finners live;
For me accept Chrift's righteousness,
And with more grace me daily blefs.

CHRIST is our Treasure and Bliss,

1 I'LL not feek my treasure here
In this dry barren land;
Shadows only here appear,
And cares on ev'ry hand:

I would mount above to taste
The fealt thou gives to faints fo free,
Lord, come down to me with hafle,
Or take me up to thee.

2 Jefus purchas'd all my blifs,
On him my hopes depend,
He himself my treasure is;
Lord, keep me to the end.
Jefus purchas'd me a feast,
When he dy'd on the curfed tree.
Lord, come down to me with hafte,
Or take me up to thee,

3

Hide me in thy bleffed wounds,

And cleanfe me in thy blood;

Glory to thy name redounds

When thou doft finners good:
Let me have thee for my guest,

Be not a stranger unto me.

4

Lord, come down to me with hafte,

Or take me up to thee.

Well thou know'ft my fin and fhame;
Forgive me, and speak peace :
Jefus, caufe me know thy name,
Shew me thy fmiling face:

Lord

Lord, thy mercy ftill doth laft;
For good a token let me fee.
Lord, come down to me with hafte,
Or take me up to thee.

5 Now by faith the Lamb we fee
With pleasure and delight;
Much increas'd our joy will be
When faith is turn'd to fight:
I defire with Chrift to reft,
Where I his face may clearly fee.
Lord, come down to me with hafte,
Or take me up to thee.

HYMN

LX.

CHRIST interpofing for fallen Man.

I OF fhadows men dream

But we will proclaim

The Lamb's death and conquefts, and found forth his name. He faw when we fell,

Our face was to hell;

Our Lamb interpofed for men that rebel.

2 Soon did he begin

For us to ftep in :

"O Father, forgive them, they know not their fin. "Them do not confume,

"For I the Lamb come

"To fatisfy juftice in guilty men's room.” 3 He was not deny'd,

The Father comply'd :

Our guilt he laid on him, and for it he dy’d.
He's nail'd to the tree,

Us captives to free

From fin and hell prifon, with God's enemie.
4 Our Lamb we'll adore,
Though devils do roar,

Envy us, purfue us, and tempt us fo fore
They rage all in vain

But cannot detain

One foul as a captive, for whom the Lamb's flain.

[blocks in formation]

To weak ones he's kind;

He'll not dwell in heaven, and leave one behind;

For me he makes room

And

And then he will come,

Me fafely to carry to my bleffed home.
6 Griev'd foul, keep his road,
Pore not on fins load,

Inftead of thy Saviour, all cover'd with blood.
Christ faith, Look on me
(For cafe) on the tree;

Look ftraight to thy furety, and thou fhalt be free.
7 When I'm with fin prest,

And fears are increast,

I'll look up to Jefus, who gives finners reft. ·
I will look to thee,

Dear Lord, on the tree;

Yea, fing of thy bowels, and bleeding for me.

HYMN LXI.

A Song of praife, and Addrefs to the Blefjed

Eternal praise be giv'n;

Who us from hell, thro' Christ, set free,
To reign with him in heav'n.
Hallelujah Hallelujah,
Hallelujah, AMEN.

2 Unto the Father, and the Son,
And Spirit ever bleft,

The undivided Trinity,
Be praises still addrest.
Hallelujub, &c.

3 Father, thou gav'ft great proof of love,
To men by fin undone,

When for our ranfom thou fent down
Thy dear and only Son.
Hallelujah, &c.

4 When we were finking to the pit,

5

How did thy bowels move!

To fave us, thou wouldst have him die :
Great proof that God is love!

Hallelujah, &c.

The dear Son's love let all men praise,

Who from the Father came

At time appointed, for to be
Our facrificed Lamb.

Hallelujah, &c.
