CHAPTER LVII.

2 Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways, as a nation that did righteousness, and forsook not the ordinance of their God: they ask of me the ordinances of justice: they take delight in approaching to God.

The fast which God accepteth him? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the LORD?

6 Is not this the fast that I have chosen to loose the bands of wickedness, g to undo the heavy burdens, and h to let the toppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?

7 Is it not i to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? k when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from 1 thine own flesh?

8 m Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD † shall be thy rere-ward.

9 Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;

10 And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noon-day:

Salvation cometh of God only enemies; to the islands he will ro pay recompense.

19 q So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in r like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.

CHAPTER LX.

1 The glory of the church in the abundant access of the Gentiles, 15 and the great blessings after a short affliction.

2 For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.

3 And the c Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.

4 d Lift up thine eyes round about, and see all they gather themselves together, e they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side.

5 Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because f the

abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee.

6 The multitude of camels shall cover thee, the dromedaries of Midian and g Ephah; all they from h Sheba shall come: they shall bring i gold and incense; and they shall shew forth the praises of the LORD.

1 The fervent desire of the prophet to con firm the church in God's promises. The office of the ministers (unto which they are incited) in preaching the gospel, 10 and preparing the people thereto.

FOR Zion's sake will I not hold

7 I will mention the loving kindnesses of the LORD, and the praises of the LORD, according to all that the LORD hath bestowed on us, and the great goodness toward the house of Israel, which he hath bestowed on them according to his mercies, and according to the multitude of his loving-kindnesses.
