IST All in All , lovely LAME, y thine, I am;

,

foul,
whole.

needful be,
> thee;

ter part,
my heart..

of men, gain,

ad of blifs,
pinefs!

th below?
know;

eav'n, but thee?

[blocks in formation]

2 My wifdom, and my guide,
My counfeller thou art;
O never let me leave thy fide,
Or from thy paths depart!

Still let thy Spirit, LORD,
Soon as the foe comes in,
His inftantaneous help afford,
And ftem the tide of fin.
For each affault prepar'd,
And ready máy I be,

For ever ftanding on my guard,

And looking up to thee.

May I from every fin,

As from a ferpent, fly;

Abhor to touch the thing unclean,

And rather chufe to die!

6

Myfelf I cannot fave,

7

Myfelf I cannot keep;

But ftrength in thee I furely have,

Whofe eye-lids never fleep.

My foul to thee alone

I therefore now commend:

Thou, JESUS, having lov'd thine own,
Wilt love me to the end.

XVI. The whole Armor of God.

OLDIERS of CHRIST, arife,

SOL

And gird your armor on,

Strong in the strength which God fupplies

Through his Eternal Son:

Strong in the LORD of hosts,
And in his mighty pow'r;
Who in the ftrength of JESUS trufts,
Is more than conqueror."

Stand, then, in his great might,
With all his ftrength endu'd,"
And take, to arm you for the fight,
The panoply of GOD;

That, having all things done,
And all your conflicts paft,
Ye may o'ercome through CHRIST alone,
And ftand entire at laft

2 Let truth the girdle be
That binds your armor on;
In faithful, firm fincerity,
TO JESUS cleave alone;

Let faith and love combine
To guard your valiant breaft;
The plate be righteoufnefs divine,
Imputed, and imprefs'd

Still let your feet be fhod,
Ready his will to do;

Ready, in all the ways of GoD,
His glory to perfue:

Ruin is fpread beneath,

The gofpel fhoes put on,

And fafe, through all the fnares of death,

To life eternal run.

3 JESUS hath dy'd for you!

What can his love withstand?

4

Your great defence he is, and who
Shall pluck you from his hand?
Believe that JESUS reigns,
All pow'r to him is giv'n;
Believe, be free from nature's chains,
And then fly up to heav'n.

Your rock can never fhake,
Hither, he faith, come up;
The helmet of falvation take,
The confidence of hope:

Hope for his perfect love,
Hope for his people's reft,
Hope to fit down with CHRIST above,
And share the marriage-feast.

Brandifh in faith, till then,

The fpirit's two-edg'd fword,

Hew all the fnares of fiends and men
In pieces with the word:

Ready for all alarms,
Stedfaftly fet your face,

And always exercise your arms,

And ufe your ev'ry grace;

From ftrength to ftrength go on,
Wrestle, and fight, and pray;
Tread all the pow'rs of darkness down,
And win the well-fought day;

Still let the Spirit cry,

In all his foldiers, "Come,"

Till CHRIST the LORD defcends from high,
To take the conquerors home....

XVII. For a Family, or Society
ESUS, LORD, we look to thee,
Let us in thy name agree;
Shew thyfelf the prince of peace,
Bid our jars for ever ceafe:
2 By thy reconciling love,

Ev'ry ftumbling block remove;
Each to each do thou endear,
Come and spread thy banner here.
3 Make us of one heart and mind,
Courteous, pitiful, and kind;
Lowly, meek in thought and word,
Altogether like our LORD:

4 Free from anger and from pride,,
Let us thus in thee abide;
All the depth of love express,
All the height of holiness.

5

Let us each for other care,
Each his brother's burthen bear;
To thy church the pattern give,
Shew how true believers live:
Let us then with joy remove
To thy family above;
On the wings of angels fly,
Shew how true believers dye.

XVIII. Another.

EACE be to this habitation,

PEAC
Peace to every foul therein,

Peace, the fore-tafte of falvation,
Peace, the fruit of cancel'd fin!
