ed and with lively, grateful devotion may my heart meet the return of the morning, and the fresh openings of thy goodness,

May that goodness especially as manifested through Jesus Christ, be known to all the earth; and by all the earth may it be adored and improved. May it bless my country with the continuance of every civil and every religious advantage: may it comfort and relieve the afflicted may it be the confidence and joy of my relatives and friends. Let all the world rejoice in it, aud a hymn of praise arise from every mouth and every heart. I would humbly rejoice and trust in it, and magnify it with all my powers. O God, the best of beings, all glory and praise be given unto thee, through Jesus Christ. Amen.

A PRAYER FOR SATURDAY MORNING.

ALMIGHTY God, the fountain of life, the unchangeable author of every good and perfect

gill, the Father of all being, my hope and my help, my glory and the lifter up of my heart; thy goodness endureth for ever, thys mercies are everlasting. While day and night follow each other in a quick succession; while my weeks pass on with a swift progress, my heart rejoiceth in thy constant and perpetual goodness. At the beginning of another day,. with which the week closeth, I render unto thee, O God of my salvation, and spring of all my comfort, my humble and fervent thanks for the repose of the past night; for the blessings renewed to me through all the days of this week, and for the mercies of my whole life. How great is the sum of them! If I' attempt to count them, they are more in number than the sand. Thy goodness first produced me into being, with the powers of enjoyment thy goodness hath upheld me in life thy visitation hath preserved my breath: thy word hath healed my diseases: thy protection hath secured me from dangers, seen and unseen thy bounty hath supplied my daily wants thy hand, though not noticed

by my inattentive mind; hath conducted me through the various scenes of life: thy providence hath given me relatives and friends, to sweeten life by their affection, and to render me good offices: all is of thee, and to thee shall be given the praise of all I enjoy or hope for. I will take the cup of salvation and call upon thy name with the emotions of wonder and gratitude: for thou art the gracious Being who hast helped me all my life long, to this day. Thou, Lord, art good unto all; and to me, even to me, thy frail and sinful creature, thy mercies have been daily and abundantly extended.

Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me bless his holy name. Blessed be thy name, O my God! Never may I forget any of thy benefits. But above all, ought I to offer up my humble, adoring tribute of praise, to thee, the God and Father of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, for the communications of truth, instruction, mercy and hope through him, of which thou hast called

me to partake. What shall I render for the discoveries of the gospel, for the aids it affords both for knowing and doing thy will, for the forgiveness it proclaims, and for the hope, the immortal hope, which it hath set before me by the doctrine and resurrection of Jesus Christ! Blessed, for ever blessed be thy name, for of thee are all things; for my temporal and spiritual blessings, for all the effects of thy goodness to me, ever since I drew my first breath, and for all the rich and eternal blessings laid up for them that love thee and keep thy commandments. May meditation on thy goodness and mercy fill my heart with gaatitude and love. May thy mercies constrain me to devote myself to thee, a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable in thy sight. I am ashamed to think how unmindful I have been of thy benefits. I blush before thee, who art ever following me with thy loving kindness, under a painful, humiliating consciousness, that I have not only forgotten thee, but in many instances have sinned against thee and thy goodness. Grant me,

O Father of mercies, an eternal interest in that forgiveness, which thy word promises; in that redemption, of which Jesus is the minister. Henceforth Henceforth may I show my thankfulness for thy abundant goodness, by chearful obedience to thy precepts, by my calm resignation to thy disposals, by my devotedness to thy service, by my zeal for thy glory, and by my imitation of thy goodness in my temper and behaviour to all about me, May doing good to all, especially to those with whom I daily converse, be my study and delight.

In the spirit of that goodness, which, O universal Parent, thou dost continually manifest to all thy works, I pour out before thee, at this time, my fervent prayers, that every needful blessing may flow to all who are nearly related to me that all support and consolation may be afforded to the afflicted: that peace and righteousness may create the happiness and exalt the glory of my country: and that the grace of the gospel may diffuse
