greatest injuries and provocations.

Though

the behaviour of others should be unkind and irritating, may I be able to preserve a mildness of spirit and a gentleness of manners. May

neither the heavier afflictions of life, nor the various cares and labours of my particular station, nor the infirmities and follies of those around me, nor the little cross occurrences of the day, may none of these things throw me off my guard, or betray me into a language or deportment, unbecoming the disciple of the meek and humble Jesus, or inconsistent with the christian law of love. May I seriously remember, that to thee, the righteous Judge, to thee, the great Father of the family of mankind, I am accountable for my conduct and temper in the station which thy providence hath assigned me. May I so behave myself towards thy household, that I household, that I may be able to give up my account with the humble hope of thy acceptance. Cherishing in my heart a sincere good-will and fervent charity to all my fellow-creatures, who are thy offspring, may I never be wanting in the discharge of the duties which belong to my particular relations. In each of those relations* may I be upright,

"As Husband or Wife, Parent or Child, Master or Servant."

peaceable, and affectionate, as the precepts of thy gospel require, and rising circumstances may dictate. May the same mind be in me, which was in Christ Jesus, who came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life for our salvation. May I meditate, O God of love and peace, on thy forbearance and benevolence, till I shall be moulded to the resemblance of thy long-suffering and goodness. May I reverence the command of love which our Divine Master taught. May my heart and manners, formed by these principles, adorn the profession of that faith, which worketh by love, and diffuse peace and comfort and joy around me. And by the cultivation and exercise of every good and generous disposition, in the daily duties of domestic life, may I become fit for that happy kingdom, for that holy family above, where love, and peace, and joy will for ever reign. For the expectation of this kingdom, to which thy mercy and promises, in Christ Jesus, have raised us, ardent praises be given unto thee, the Father of us all, through all ages. Amen.
