HYMN X.

Let us come boldly unto the throne of grace. Heb. iv. 16.

APPROACH my soul the mercy-seat
Where Jesus answers pray'r;

There humbly fall before his feet,
For none can perish there.

Thy promise is my only plea,
With this I venture nigh:
Thou callest burden'd souls to thee,
And such O Lord am I.

Be thou my shield and hiding place,
That, shelter'd near thy side,

I may my fierce accuser face,

And tell him "thou hast died."

O wondrous love! to bleed and die,
To bear the cross and shame;

That guilty sinners, such as I,

Might plead thy gracious name.

HYMN XI.

Earnestly desiring to be clothed, &c. 2 Cor. v. 2. As when the weary trav'ller gains

The height of some o'erlooking hill; His heart revives, if cross the plains He views his home, tho' distant still.

So, when the christian pilgrim views

By faith, his mansion in the skies; The sight his fainting strength renews, And wings his speed to reach the prize.

The thought of home his spirit cheers; No more he grieves for troubles past; Nor any future trial fears

So he may safe arrive at last.

""Tis there," he says, "I am to dwell
With Jesus, in the realms of day;
Then I shall bid my cares farewell,
And he shall wipe my tears away.

HYMN XII.

They sing the song of Moses. Rev. xv. 3.

Awake, and sing the song

Of Moses and the Lamb; Wake ev'ry heart and ev'ry tongue, To praise the Saviour's name.

Sing of his dying love;

Sing of his rising pow'r;
Sing how he intercedes above
For those whose sins he bore.

Sing, till we feel the heart

Ascending with the tongue;

Let ev'ry meaner joy depart,

And grace inspire the song.

Sing on your heav'nly way,

Ye ransom'd sinners, sing;

Sing on, rejoicing ev'ry day

In Christ th'eternal King.

HYMN XIII.

Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised.
1 Chron. xvi. 25.

BEFORE Jehovah's awful throne,
Ye nations bow with sacred joy;
Know that the Lord is God alone,
He can create and he destroy.

His sov'reign pow'r without our aid,
Made us of clay and form'd us men;
And when like wand'ring sheep we stray'd,
He brought us to his fold again.

We'll crowd thy gates with songs of praise,
High as the heav'ns our voices raise;
And earth with her ten thousand tongues,
Shall fill thy courts with sounding praise.

Wide as the world is thy command,
Vast as eternity thy love;

Firm as a rock thy truth shall stand,

When rolling years shall cease to move.

HYMN XIV.

O my God be not far from me. Ps. xxxviii. 21.

BESET with snares on ev'ry hand,
In life's uncertain path I stand;
Saviour divine! diffuse thy light,
To guide my doubtful footsteps right.

Engage this roving treach'rous heart,
O Lord! to choose the better part;
To scorn the trifles of a day,
For joys that none can take away.

Then should the wildest storms arise,
And tempests mingle seas and skies;
No fatal shipwreck shall I fear,
But all my treasures with me bear.

If thou, my Saviour, still art nigh,
Cheerful 1 live and joyful die;
Secure, when mortal comforts flee,
To find ten thousand worlds in thee.
