HYMN XX.

Mine own arm brought salvation. Is. lxiii. 5.

CROWNS of glory ever bright

Rest upon the victor's head; Crowns of glory are his right,

His who liveth and was dead.

He subdu'd the pow'rs of hell;
In the fight he stood alone;

All his foes before him fell,

By his single arm o'erthrown.

They have fall'n to rise no more;
Final is the foe's defeat;

Jesus triumph'd by his pow'r,

And his triumph is complete.

Now proclaim his deeds afar;

Fill the world with his renown;

His alone the victor's car;

His the everlasting crown.

HYMN XXI.

All that are in their graves shall hear his voice.

John v. 28.

DAY of judgment, day of wonders!
Hark the trumpet's awful sound
Louder than a thousand thunders,

Shakes the vast creation round :

How the summons will the sinner's heart confound.

At his call the dead awaken,

Rise to life from earth and sea;

All the powers of nature shaken,

From his face prepare to flee : Careless sinner, what will then become of thee?

But to those who have confessed,

Lov'd, and serv'd the Lord below,

He will say

66 come near ye blessed,

See the kingdom I bestow :

You for ever shall my love and glory know."

HYMN XXII.

The coming of the Lord draweth nigh. James v. 8.

ETERNITY is just at hand,

And shall I waste my ebbing sand-
And careless view the passing day,

And throw my span of time away?

Eternity! tremendous sound!
To guilty souls a dreadful wound:
But, O! if Christ and heav'n be mine,
The sound, how glorious, how divine!

Be this my chief, my only care,
My high pursuit, my ardent pray'r:
An int'rest in the Saviour's blood;
My pardon seal'd, and peace with God.

Search Lord! O search my inmost heart,
And light, and hope, and joy, impart :
From guilt and error set me free,
And guide me safe to heav'n and thee.

HYMN XXIII.

Let the lifting up of my hands be as the evening sacrifice.

ERE another sabbath's close;

Ere again we seek repose;

Psalm cxli. 2.

Lord! our song ascends to thee;
At thy feet we bow the knee.

For the mercies of the day;
For this rest upon our way;
Thanks to thee alone be given,
Lord of earth and King of heaven.

Whilst this thorny path we tread,
May thy love our footsteps lead :
When our journey here is past,
May we rest with thee at last!

May these earthly sabbaths prove
Foretastes of our joys above!
While their steps thy pilgrims bend
To the rest which knows no end.

Evening Hymn.

HYMN XXIV.

There are Three that bear record in heaven. 1 John, v. 7.

FATHER of heav'n, whose love profound
A ransom for our souls hath found;
Before thy throne we sinners bend,
To us thy pard'ning love extend.

Almighty Son! Incarnate Word!
Our Prophet, Priest, Redeemer, Lord;
Before thy throne we sinners bend,
To us thy saving grace extend.

Eternal Spirit! by whose breath
The soul is rais'd from sin and death;
Before thy throne we sinners bend;
To us thy quick'ning pow'r extend.

Jehovah! Father, Spirit, Son,
Mysterious Godhead! Three in One!
Before thy throne we sinners bend,
Grace, pardon, life, to us extend.

Trinity Sunday.
