Attend upon the Lord. 1 Cor. vii. 35.
The presence, gracious Lord, afford,
Distracting thoughts and cares remove,
To each, thy sacred word apply,
Father, in us thy Son reveal ;
I am the way, and the truth, and the life. John xiv. 6. Thou art the Way—to thee alone
From sin and death we flee; And he who would the Father seek,
Must seek him Lord in thee.
Thou art the Truth—thy word alone
True wisdom can impart ; Thou only canst instruct the mind,
And purify the heart.
Thou art the Life-the rending tomb
Proclaims thy conqu’ring arm; And those who put their trust in thee,
Nor death nor hell shall harm.
Thou art the Way, the Truth, the Life,
Grant us to know that Way; That Truth to keep, that Life to win,
Which leads to endless day.
THERE 15 re saints in the nig!
There remaineth a rest. Heb. iv. 9. THERE is a land of pure delight,
Where saints immortal reign; Infinite day excludes the night,
And pleasures banish pain.
There everlasting spring abides,
And never-with’ring flow’rs ; Death, like a narrow sea, divides
This heav'nly land from ours.
O! could we but our doubts remove,
Those gloomy doubts that rise; And see the Canaan that we love,
With faith's illumin'd eyes !
Could we but climb where Moses stood,
And view the landscape o'er ; Not Jordan's waves, nor death's cold flood,
Should fright us from the shore.
We must all appear. 2 Cor. v. 10. Thou Judge of quick and dead !
Before whose awful bar, With holy joy, or guilty fear,
We all must soon appear.
Our souls by grace prepare,
For that tremendous day;
And stir us up to pray.
To pray and wait the hour,
That awful hour unknown; When rob’d in majesty and pow'r,
Thou shalt from heav'n come down.
Oh! may we then be found,
Obedient to thy word;
The only wise God. Jude 24. To God, the only wise,
Our Saviour, and our King; Let all the saints below the skies,
Their humble praises bring.
'Tis bis almighty love,
'Tis his protecting care, That brings down blessings from above,
And saves from ev'ry snare.
He does our souls defend,
And chase our fears away; He will preserve us to the end,
And own us in his day.
Then all the ransom'd race,
Assembled round the throne; Shall bless the guidance of his grace,
And make his wonders known.
