HYMN VII. P. M.

1 LO, He comes, in clouds descending! Once for ransom'd sinners slain;Thousand thousand saints attending Swell the triumph of his train: Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Christ is come to earth again.

2 Ev'ry eye shall now behold Him,
Rob'd in dreadful majesty ;
They who set at nought, and sold him,
Pierc'd and nail'd him to the tree,
Deeply wailing, deeply wailing,
Shall the true Messiah see.

3 Every island, sea, and mountain,

Heav'n, and earth, shall flee away; All who hate Him must, confounded, Hear the trump proclaim the day: Come to judgment! come to judgment! Come to judgment! come away! 4 Now Salvation, long expected, See, in solemn pomp appear; All his saints, by man rejected, Rise and meet Him in the air! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

See the day of God appear!

HYMN X. C. M.

SAVIOUR, whom this holy morn
Gave to our world below,

To mortal want and labour born,
And more than mortal woe!
2 Incarnate Word, by ev'ry grief,
By each temptation tried;
Who liv'd to yield our ills relief,
And to redeem us died!

3 If gaily cloth'd, and proudly fed,
In dang'rous wealth we dwell,
Remind us of Thy manger-bed,
And lonely cottage cell.

4 If prest by poverty severe
În envious want we pine,
may thy Spirit whisper near,
How poor a lot was Thine!

5 Through fickle Fortune's various scene
From sin preserve us free;
Like us thou hast a mourner been;
May we rejoice in Thee!

HYMN XI. C. M.

HIGH let us swell our tuneful notes,
And join th' angelic throng;

For angels no such love have known
T'awake a cheerful song.

2 Good-will to sinful man is shewn,
And peace on earth is giv'n:
For, lo! th' Incarnate Saviour comes,
Th' Immanuel from heav'n!

3 Justice and mercy, truth and love,
His rising beams adorn:

Let heav'n and earth in concert join-
"To us a child is born!"

4 Glory to God in highest strains,
In highest worlds be paid;
His glory by our lips proclaim'd,
And by our lives display'd!

5 O may we reach those blissful realms
Where Christ exalted reigns,
And learn of the celestial choir
Their own immortal strains!

HYMN XII. C. M.

1 HARK, the glad sound! the Saviour The Saviour promis'd long! [comes,

Let ev'ry heart exult with joy,

Let ev'ry voice be song.

2 He comes the pris'ners to release,
In Satan's bondage held;

The gates of brass before him break,
The iron fetters yield.

3 He comes, from thickest clouds of sin
To clear the mental ray,

And on the eye long clos'd in night
To pour celestial day.

4 He comes, the broken heart to bind,
The wounded soul to cure,

And, with the treasures of His grace,
To bless the humble poor.

5 Our glad Hosannas, Prince of Peace,
Thy birth aloud proclaim;
And heav'n's exalted arch resounds
Thine everlasting Name.

HYMN XIII. L. M.

E comes! He comes! a glorious light Around its beaming lustre sheds : The shepherds, watching in the night, With awe and wonder bow their heads.

2 He comes! He comes! the glorious Name The heav'nly Host, with one accord, In holy melody proclaim

"A present Saviour, Christ the Lord!"
3 He comes! He comes! His star behold,
Glitt'ring along the eastern sky;

The Magian Priests, with spice and gold,
Prostrate before the Infant lie.

4 He comes! He comes! Be peace on earth;
Ye warring nations sheathe your swords;
And all adore the Saviour's birth,
The King of Kings, and Lord of Lords!

New Year.

HYMN XIV. L.M.

TERNAL Source of ev'ry joy! Well may Thy praise our lips employ, While in thy temple we appear,

To hail Thee Sov'reign of the year. 2 Wide as the wheels of nature roll, Thy hand supports and guides the whole: The sun is taught by Thee to rise, The night by Thee to veil the skies. 3 Seasons renew'd, and years, and days, Demand successive songs of praise : Still be the grateful homage paid, With morning light and ev'ning shade. 4 Here let our prayer, as incense, rise To Thee, a grateful sacrifice; Till to those glorious realms we soar, When days and years revolve no more!
