When the favour divine

I first found in the blood of the Lamb;
When my heart it believ'd,
What a joy I receiv'd,
What a heaven in Jesus's name!
3 'Twas an heaven below
My Saviour to know;

The angels could do nothing more
Than fall at his feet,

And the story repeat,

And the Lover of finners adore.
Jefus all the day long

4

Was my joy and my fong;

O that all his falvation might fee!
He hath lov'd me, I cried,
He hath fuffer'd, and died,

To redeem fuch a rebel as me.
On the wings of his love
I was carry'd above

5

All fin, and temptation, and pain;

I could not believe

That I ever fhould grieve, That I ever should fuffer again. 6 I rode on the fky,

Freely juftified I!

Nor envy'd Elijah his feat;

My foul mounted higher

In a chariot of fire,

And the Moon it was under my feet.
7 On the rapturous height
Of that holy delight
Which I felt in the life giving blood!
Of my Saviour poffeft

I was perfectly bleft,

As if fill'd with the fulness of God.

Ан,

HYMN CCXXIII.

PART THE SECOND,

H, where am I now!

When was it, or how

That I fell from my heaven of grace! I am brought into thrall,

I am ftript of my All!

I am banish'd from Jefus's face.
Hardly yet do I know
How I let my Lord go,

2

So infenfibly starting afide;

When the tempter came in
With his own fubtle fin,

And infected my fpirit with pride.
But I felt it too foon

3

That my Saviour was gone, Swiftly vanishing out of my fight; My triumph and boast

On a fudden were loft,

And my day it was turn'd into night.
4 Only pride could destroy
That innocent joy,

And make my Redeemer depart;
But whate'er was the caufe,

I lament the fad lofs,

For the veil is come over my heart.

5

Ah! wretch that I am!

I can only exclaim,

Like a devil tormented within ;

My Saviour is gone,

And has left me alone

To the fury of Satan and fin.

6

Nothing now can relieve,
Without comfort I grieve,

I have lost all my peace and my pow'r;

No accefs do I find

To the Friend of mankind; I can ask for his mercy no more. Tongue cannot declare

7

The torment I bear,

(While no end of my troubles I fee) Only Adam could tell

On the day that he fell,

And was turn'd out of Eden like me.
Driven out from my God,

8

I wander abroad,

Thro' a defert of forrows I rove:

And how great is my pain,

That I cannot regain

My Eden of Jefus's love?

9

I never thall rife

To my first paradife,

Or come my Redeemer to fee
But I feel a faint hope
That at laft he will stoop,

And his pity fhall bring him to me.

HYMN CCXXIV.

How fhall a loft finner in pain

Recover his forfeited peace;
When brought into bondage again,
What hope of a Tecond releafe?
Will Mercy itself be fo kind

To fpare fuch a rebel as me?
And O! can I poffibly find

Such plenteous redemption in thee!

2 O Jefus, of thee I require,

If ftill thou art able to fave,

The brand to pluck out of the fire,
And ranfom my foul from the grave !

The help of thy Spirit reftore, And fhew me the life-giving blood, And pardon a finner once more, And bring me again unto God. 3 O Jefus, in pity draw near,

Come quickly to help a loft foul, To comfort a mourner appear, And make a poor Lazarus whole; The balm of thy mercy apply, (Thou feeft the fore anguish I feel) Save, Lord, or I perifh, I die; O fave, or I fink into hell! 4 I fink, if thou longer delay

Thy pardoning mercy to fhow; Come quickly, and kindly display The pow'r of thy paffion below. By all thou haft done for my fake, One drop of thy blood I implore: Now, now let it touch me, and make The finner a finner no more.

FOR THE KING.

HYMN CCXXV.

LORD, thou haft bid thy people pray

For all that bear the fov'reign fway,
And thy vicegerent's reign,

Rulers, and governors, and pow'rs;
And, lo! in faith we pray for ours,
Nor can we pray in vain.

2 Jefu, thy chosen servant guard,
And every threat'ning danger ward
From his anointed head;

Bid all his griefs and troubles cease,
And thro' the paths of heav'nly peace
To life eternal lead.

3 Cover his enemies with fhame,

Defeat their dire malicious aim,

Their baffled hopes destroy;

But show'r on him thy bleflings down ;
Crown him with grace, with glory crown,
And everlasting joy.

4 To hoary hairs be thou his God,
Late may h feek that high abode,
Late to his heav'n remove :
Of virtues full, and happy days,
Accounted worthy, by thy grace,
To fill a throne above.

5 And when thou doft his fp'rit receive,
O give him, in his offspring, give
Us back our king again.

Preferve him, Providence Divine,
And let the long-illuftrious line
To lateft ages reign.

6 Secure us of his royal race

A man to stand before thy face,
And exercife thy pow'r;

With wealth, profperity, and peace,
Qur nation and our church to blefs,
Till time fhall be no more.

A PARENT's PRAYER.

HYMN CCXXVI.

GOD only wife, almighty, good,

Send forth thy truth and light
To point us out the narrow road,
And guide our steps aright:
