5 Scatter the last remains of fin,
And feal me thine abode;
O make me glorious all within,
A temple built by God.

HYMN LXXVI.

HOLY Lamb, who thee receive,

Who in thee begin to live,

Day and night they cry to thee,
As thou art, fo let us be!
2 Jefu, fee my panting breast:
See, I pant in thee to reft!
Gladly would I now be clean :
Cleanse me now from ev'ry fin
3 Fix, O fix my wav'ring mind;
To thy crofs my fpirit bind;
Earthly paffions far remove,
Swallow up our fouls in love,
4 Duft and afhes though we be,
Full of guilt and mifery;

Thine we are, thou Son of God,
Take the purchase of thy blood!
5 Who in heart on thee believes,
He th' atonement now receives:
He with joy beholds thy face,
Triumphs in thy pard'ning grace.
6 See, ye finners, fee the flame
Rifing from the flaughter'd Lamb,
Mark the new, the living way,
Leading to eternal day!

7 Jefu, when this light we fee,

All our foul's athirft for thee;
When thy quick'ning pow'r we prove,
All our heart diffolves in love.

8 Boundless wisdom, pow'r divine,
Love unfpeakable are thine!
Praife by all to thee be giv'n,
Sons of earth and hofts of heav'n.

Chrift, be Lord, be King to me.
I pant to feel thy fway,

And only thee t' obey:

Thee my spirit gasps to meet;

This my one, my ceafelefs pray'r,
Make, O make my heart thy feat!
O fet up thy kingdom there!
Triumph and reign in me,
And spread thy victory :
Hell, and death, and fin controul,
Pride, and wrath, and ev'ry foe,
All fubdue through all my foul
Conqo'ring, and to conquer, go!

HYMN LXXVIII.

LORD, I believe thy ev'ry word,

Thy ev'ry promise true;
And lo! I wait on thee, my God,
Till I my ftrength renew.

2 If in this feeble flesh I may

Awhile fhew forth thy praife,
Jefu, fupport the tott'ring clay,
And lengthen but my days.
3 If fuch a worm as I can fpread

The common Saviour's name;
Let him who rais'd thee from the dead
Quicken my mortal frame.

4 Still let me live thy blood to fhew,
Which purges ev'ry stain;
And gladly linger out below
A few more years in pain.

5 Spare me, till I my ftrength of foul,
Till I thy love retrieve;.

Till faith fhall make my fpirit whole,
And perfect foundness give.

6 For this in ftedfaft hope I wait,
Now, Lord, my foul restore;

I

Now the new heav'ns and earth create,
And I fhall fin no more.

HYMN LXXIX.

Love divine, all loves excelling,
Joy of heav'n to earth come down;
Fix in us thy humble dwelling,
All thy faithful mercies crown;
Jefu, thou art all compaffion,

Pure unbounded love thou art;
Vifit us with thy falvation,

Enter ev'ry trembling heart.

2 Breathe, O breathe thy loving Spirit Into ev'ry troubled breast;

Let us all in thee inherit,

Let us find that fecond reft:

Take away our pow'r of finning,
Alpha and Omega be;
End of faith, as its beginning,
Set our hearts at liberty.

3 Come, almighty to deliver,
Let us all thy life receive,
Suddenly return, and never,

Never more thy temples leave:
Thee we would be always bleffing,
Serve thee as thy hofts above,
Pray, and praise thee without ceafing,
Glory in thy perfect love.

4 Finish then thy new creation,
Pure and fpotless let us be;
Let us fee thy great falvation
Perfectly reftor'd in thee!
Chang'd from glory into glory,

Till in heaven we take our place,
Till we caft our crowns before thee,
Loft in wonder, love, and praise !

O..

HYMN LXXX.

THAT my load of fin were gone!
O that I could at laft fubmit
At Jefu's feet to lay it down!
To lay my foul at Jefu's feet!

2 Reft for my foul I long to find:

[ocr errors]

Saviour of all, if mine thou art, Give me thy meek and lowly mind, And stamp thine image on my heart. 3 Break off the yoke of inbred fin, And fully fet my spirit free; I cannot reft, till pure within, Till I am wholly loft in thee. G

4 Fain would I learn of thee, my God,
Thy light and easy burden prove;
The crofs all ftain'd with hallow'd blood,
The labour of thy dying love."

5 I would; but thou must give the pow'r,
My heart from ev'ry fin releafe;
Bring near, bring near the joyful hour,
And fill me with thy perfect peace.
6 Come, Lord, the drooping finner cheer,
Nor let thy chariot-wheels delay!
Appear, in my poor heart appear!
My God, my Saviour, come away!

I

HYMN LXXXI.

LIGHT
VIGHT of life, feraphic fire,
Love divine, thyfelf impart
Ev'ry fainting foul infpire;

Shine in ev'ry drooping heart!
Ev'ry mournful finner cheer;
Scatter all our guilty gloom!
Son of God, appear, appear!
To thy human temples come.
2 Come in this accepted hour;

Bring thy heav'nly kingdom in !
Fill us with the glorious pow'r,
Rooting out the feeds of fin:
Nothing more can we require;
We will covet nothing lefs :
Be thou all our heart's defire,
All our joy, and all our peace

1 GOD of all-redeeming grace,

By thy pard'ning love compell'd,
Up to thee, our fouls we raise,
Up to thee, our bodies yield:
