5 Thus spake the seraph, and forthwith
Appeared a shining throng

Of angels praising God on high,
And thus addressed their song:

6 "All glory be to God on high, And to the earth be peace ;

Good-will henceforth, from heaven to man, Begin, and never cease."

HYMN 23. P. M.

New-year.

1 The Lord of earth and sky,
The God of ages, praise;
Who reigns enthroned on high,
Ancient of endless days!

Who lengthens out our trials here,
And spares us yet another year.

2 Barren and withered trees,

We cumbered long the ground;
No fruit of holiness

On our dead souls was found;
Yet doth he us in mercy spare
Another and another year.

3 Ne t'ya ga weh tah kon
Nonh wa geh ne on gweh,
Wa tonhs ra o wea na,
Ne a ga we rya neh !

Ra ni hah ra honh si yo se,

Ra thon dats she gon joh se rat!

4 Ji ya wen he yonh ne,

Ni yoh ne sron he ton
Ne na yo tenh the on;

Ta gwa ya ta gen has Ye sus,
Wa hon ni ya gwa gens joh s'rat.

5 Tes ho nonh ya ni eks,

Ne seh shon gwen ten ron,

Ne ro ronh ya gea onh

Son we senht s'ra ye go wa naht,

3 When justice bared the sword
To cut the fig-tree down,
The pity of the Lord

Cried, "Let it still alone!"

The Father mild inclines his ear,
And spares us yet another year.

4 Jesus, thy speaking blood

From God obtained the grace;
Who therefore hath bestowed
On us a longer space :

Thou didst in our behalf appear,
And lo, we see another year.

5 Then dig about the root,

Break up the fallow ground, And let our gracious fruit To thy great praise abound: O let us all thy praise declare, And fruit unto perfection bear.

HYMN 24 S. M.

Family Worship.

1 We lift our hearts to thee,
O Day-star from on high ;
The sun itself is but thy shade,
Yet cheers both earth and sky.

2 Te yoh swat he tah kon,
Te yo ron ron ton yon,
Ne ji ni yonk hi ga en yon,
Ji te wa ya tah tonhs!

1 Sa ya ner non wa or hon geh, Ta gi tenr sat hon dek :

A ge wea na eh wa gat tye,

Wa ga de rea na yen.

2 Let thy orient beams

The night of sin disperse,

The mists of error and of vice,
Which shade the universe.

3 How beauteous nature now! How dark and sad before!

With joy we view the pleasing change, And nature's God adore.

4 O may no gloomy crime
Pollute the rising day;

Or Jesus' blood, like evening dew,
Wash all its stains away.

5 May we this life improve,

To mourn for errors past;

And live this short revolving day,
As if it were our last.

6 To God the Father, Son,
And Spirit, one in three,
Be glory, as it was, is now,
And shall for ever be.

HYMN 25. C. M.

Family Worship.

1 Lord, in the morning thou shalt hear My voice ascending high;

To thee will I direct my prayer,

To thee lift up mine eye.
