FTER the Reading of these Words, it is very proper I fhould mention the Occafion of my difcourfing on them at this time: And that is, the Death of a ferious and hopeful young Man, known to feveral in this Flace,

whofe Defire it was that I fhould improve his Dying to the Benefit of the Living, in Preaching upon this Text: A Text He was fo bright an Inftance of the Truth of, that I know not how any Scripture could have kept our Eyes more upon the Occafion, or better have made way for what I have to fay concerning our deceas'd Friend.

THE Flourishing, and Profperous State of fome of the vileft of Sinners in this World, has, from the time of David untill now, been made ufe of by the Atheiftical and Prophane, as a ftanding Argument against Religion; and too often has prevail'd in the Minds of good Men themfelves, fo as to prove a ftaggering Objetion against a Divine Providence. When we fee those that forget God, yea blafpheme his Name, and defpife his Sovereignty, grow Rich, and Great, and have more than Heart could wish; while the Good Man seems to fuffer most in the ways of Holinefs; or at leaft to meet with no better Treatment in this Life than the Wicked: Some are ready to fay, What Profit is there in waiting upon God? Or what Advantage in keeping
