There the bees went for honey;
There the birds sipp'd the dew;
And there the pretty butterflies,
And the lady-birds flew.

And there among her flowers,
Every bright and pleasant day,
In her own pretty garden,
Little Annie went to play.

I LIKE LITTLE PUSSY.

I LIKE little pussy,

Her coat is so warm,
And if I don't hurt her,
She'll do me no harm.

So I'll not pull her tail,
Or drive her away,
But pussy and I

Very gently will play.

She will sit by my side,

And I'll give her her food, And she'll like me because

I am gentle and good.

MY LITTLE DOLL ROSE.

I HAVE a little doll,

I take care of her clothes,
She has soft flaxen hair;
And her name is Rose.

She has pretty blue eyes,
And a very small nose,
And a cunning little mouth;
And her name is Rose.

I have a little sofa

Where my dolly may repose,
Or sit up like a lady;

And her name is Rose.

My doll can move her arms,
And stand upon her toes,
She can make a pretty curtsey,
My dear little Rose.

How old is your dolly?
Very young, I suppose,
For she cannot go alone,
My pretty little Rose.

Indeed I cannot tell,
In poetry or prose,
How beautiful she is,
My darling little Rose.

B

THE NEW MOON.

DEAR mother, how pretty
The moon looks to-night,

She was never so cunning before;
Her two little horns

Are so sharp and so bright,
I hope she'll not grow any more.
If I were up there
With you and my friends,

I'd rock in it nicely, you'd see;
I would sit in the middle,
And hold by both ends,

Oh, what a bright cradle 'twould be!

I would call to the stars

To keep out of the way,

Lest we should rock over their toes;

And there I would rock

Till the dawn of the day,

And see where the pretty moon goes.

And there we would stay

In the beautiful skies,

And through the bright clouds we would roam; We would see the sun set,

And see the sun rise,

And on the next rainbow come home.

SEE the kitten on the wall,
Sporting with the leaves that fall,
With red leaves, one, two, and three,
Falling from the elder-tree,
Through the calm and frosty air
Of the morning bright and fair.

See the kitten, how she starts,
Crouches, stretches, paws, and darts;
With a tiger-leap half way

Now she meets her coming prey,
Lets it go as fast, and then

Has it in her power again.

Now she works with three and four,
Like an Indian conjuror;
Quick as he in feats of art,
Gracefully she plays her part;
Yet were gazing thousands there,
What would little tabby care?

WHICH WAY DOES THE WIND BLOW?

WHICH Way does the wind blow,
Which way does he go?

He rides over water,

He rides over snow;

O'er wood and o'er valley,
And o'er rocky height,
Which the goat cannot traverse,
He taketh his flight.

He rages and tosses
