of the Universe, to whom the Son himselffhall be fubject, even then when all Things fhall be fubdued under his Feet...

ON these Doctrines I need not now enlarge, nor add any thing to what I have already faid concerning them, in order to the Explication of the Text,

I fhall therefore content myself with mentioning fome of those many useful Inferences which may be drawn from what hath been faid.

SINCE then Chrift must reign till all his Enemies are put under his Feet, let us in all Dangers rely upon him for Protection and Succour; for greater is He that is with us than all that are against us. Let this encourage us to fight manfully under his Banner, as we engaged to do, when we renounc'd the Devil and his Angels, gave up our Names to Jefus Chrift, and owned him for our Captain and our King. Let us be willingly fubject to Him, whom we must be fubject Q. 2

to whether we will or no. Let us take Heed that we be not found among those whom he fhall deftroy, when he shall Pf. xlv. gird his Sword upon his Thigh, and his 3, 4. right Hand fhall teach him terrible Things. Let not the prevailing Power of Satan and his Confederates tempt us to repine, but let us wait with Patience Ifai. Ixiii. until the Day of Vengeance, till the Year of the Redeemed fhall come; when the Lord of Hofts mighty in Battle fhall return Victorious from the Field of Edom, with Garments died in Blood from Boxrab.

I, 4.

LET the Confideration of the final Destruction of Death arm us against the Fear of it, and moderate our Sorrow for those who have undergone the Stroke of it, and ftir us up to render Thanks to God, who fhall at length put an End to the Triumphs of the Grave, and give to is the Victory thro' Jefus Chrift/ our Lord. LET the Profpect of a glorious Refurrection unto Life eternal, administer

IF we hope hereafter to fee God as he is, let us while we live here become in fome measure like him. Let us preferve spotless and undefiled not only our Spirits, but our Flesh alfo, in which we fhall rise again and fee God Face to Face, which in order thereto hath already receiv'd the Washing of Life, and hath been fed with the Bread that nourisheth unto Immortality, and with the Cup of Salvation. Let us earneftly endeavour after the higheft Degrees of Purity and Holiness; for in our Father's House there are many Manfions; and they fhall dwell neareft to him, and have the cleareft View of him, and converfe moft familiarly with him, who fhall most refemble him in Holinefs and all God-like Virtues. Let us be careful not to drive from

from us that Holy Spirit, which is given to us as a Preparative for, and Earneft of our future Happiness; a Part in Hand of that plenary Communication of Divine Grace by which we fhall be raised to Life, and clothed with Incorruption, and enabled to approach the Light which is to Mortals inacceffible, and to live for ever in that Glorious Prefence in which is Fulness of Joy.

Laftly, SINCE God the Father alone is the most High King, above whom there is no King nor Lord, nor God nor Father, and to whom all other Perfons without Exception are fubject; let us afcribe to him this Prerogative, and to him only. Indeed he that honoureth not the Son, honoureth not the Father that fent him; wherefore it is our Duty to honour the Son as we honour the Father, but not fo as to difhonour the Father. And without difhonouring him we cannot afcribe to another, no not to the only Begotten, that Pre-eminence which

belongs peculiarly to him, as being alone Unbegotten. Let not the Worship of the Father and of the Son be divided; but let the Father be worshipped thro the Son, the Mediator between him and us. Let the Son be worshipped next unto and together with the Father, as being one with him, and fitting with him on his Throne, and ruling over all in Subordination to him, and by a Power derived from him.
