ALL last night while men were sleeping | Hark, He speaketh-.“ Yes, My children,
A Thou didst know no moment's rest, You can help Me, if you try
Kneeling lonely in the garden

Lovingly My steps to follow
Sorrowful and sore distrest.

On the road to Calvary.”
Judas with a band of soldiers

JESUS, JESUS, etc.
Seeking to betray Thee, came,
With a traitor's kiss he hailed Thee,

See, the Saviour fainteth, falleth :

His dread Cross must Simon bear-
Calling on Thy Holy Name.
JESUS, JESUS, call Thy loving children

Calvary's Hill at length He reacheth

On the Cross is nailed there.
Closer to Thy Side ;

Yes, the cruel nails are driven
Teach us how to spend Good Friday
With Thee Crucified.

Through the sacred Hands and Feet,

Now the Cross is raised, and JESUS Up and down about the city

Hangs beneath the sun's fierce heat. Thou wert dragged throughout the night;

JESUS, JESUS, etc.
Pilate scourged Thee, Herod mocked "Father.”'_hark. He cries_“forgive theni,
Thee,

For they know not what they do."
Clad Thee in a robe of white.
Sacred Head with thorns surrounded,

Ah, dear LORD, when we were sinful

What we did we never knew. Sacred flesh with scourging torn,

Make us hate the sins which nailed Thee, How could we, Thy loving children, Leave Thee this Good Friday morn ?

Bleeding, dying, to the Tree,

And when Satan tempts, oh, let us
JESUS, JESUS, etc.

Think what sin has cost to Thee.
Now a heavy cross they give Thee,

JESUS, JESUS, call Thy loving children Make 'Thee bear it on the way ;

Closer to Thy Side ; Ah, dear LORD, that Thou would'st let us Teach us how to spend Good Friday Help Thee carry it to-day.

With Thee Crucified.

CHALL JESUS tread the path alone, / While I in cold forgetfulness
The Cross to Calvary bearing,

My selfish ease am taking ?
While I my LORD and God disown,

Oh no, my only thought, etc. The world's vain pleasures sharing ?

Shall JESUS bow His sacred Head
Oh no, my only thought to-day

His soul to God commending,
Shall be of JESUS dying,

While I for Whom His Blood was shed
While close beside the Cross I stay, In sloth the day am spending ?
To Him for mercy crying.

Oh no, my only thought, etc. Upon the Cross shall JESUS thirst, LORD, give me grace that I may know His lips all parched and burning,

The depths of Thine affliction, While I refuse to fast and pray,

And teach me to abhor the sin To mirth and feasting turning ?

That caused Thy Crucifixion. Oh no, my only thought, etc.

Then will my thoughts this solemn day

Be all of Jesus dying, Shall Mary stand beside the Cross,

While close beside the Cross I stay, Her heart with anguish breaking,

To Him for mercy crying. Amen.

[Alternalive Tune No. 54.]
FOR thirty-three sad years

LORD, let Thy love prevail
CHRIST lived below,

This heart to break;
A life of toil and tears,

Pity Thy child so frail,
Of want and woe.

My memory take:
Then on the Cross of pain

If on Thy glory ever
He paid our debt;

My heart is set
For me He died in vain,

Never again, ah! never
If I forget.

Will I forget. Amen.
