SKINNER.

JESUS speaks, let man attend,
"I thy Saviour and thy Friend;
"Left my glory, died for thee,
"To my sceptre bow the knee."

2 "Come this moment taste my bliss,
"Ready my salvation is ;

"All are safe that come to me,
"Sinners, Mourners, bow the knee”

3 "Come, from youth to hoary age.
"I will all your griefs assuage;
"From the bonds of sin set free,
"Ev'ry soul, that bows the knee."

4 "Soon to judgment, lo, I come,
Hear the unbeliever's doom;

[ocr errors]

"Those that slight my mercy free,
"Must to Justice bow the knee."

5 "See the saints at my right hand,
"Join in praise th' angelic band;
"Rob'd in glory they shall be,
"And with raptures bow the knee."

L. M. Invitation to Backsliders.

ANON

RETURN, O wanderer, return!
God hears thy deep repentant sigh:
He sees thy soften'd spirit mourn,
When no intruding ear is nigh.

2 Return, O wanderer, return!
Thy Saviour bids thy spirit live ;
Go to his bleeding feet and learn
How freely Jesus can forgive.

3 Return, O wanderer, return!
And wipe away thy falling tear:
'Tis God who says, 'No longer mourn,'
'Tis mercy's voice invites thee near.
4 Return, O wanderer, return!
Regain thy lost, lamented rest:

The pow'r of sovereign goodness learn,
And live, through endless ages, blest.

Warned.

KELLY.

1 TO the ark away, or perish,
Sinners, to the ark away;

Vain the hope that thousands cherish
Of deliverance in that day
When destruction

Cometh, that no arm can stay.

2 Hear the Lord, himself invites you,
To his arms, a refuge sure;
O believe him, lest he smite you
With a curse that none can cure ;
When he thunders.

Who his anger can endure?

3 They are safe, and none beside them,
Who the Saviour's word obey;
They are safe, for he will hide them,
In the dark and gloomy day;
He will hide them

Till the storm has pass'd away.

LEE from the wrath to come!
Stay not in all the plain;

Sinners, the gospel calls you home,
Its blessings to obtain.

Flee from the wrath divine,
"Which is reveal'd from heav'n,

Against ungodliness and sin,"
Except through Christ forgiv'n.

3 Flee from the wrath of God! O haste without delay,

4

To the dear fountain of his blood,
That turn'd that wrath away.

In Jesn's name alone,

The guilty are receiv'd;

Nor has he ever cast out one,
Who in his name believ'd.

WATTS.

1 SINNER,O why so thoughtless grown?
Why in such dreadful haste to die?
Daring to leap to worlds unknown,
Heedless against thy God to fly?

2 Stay sinner! on the gospel plains,
Behold the God of love unfold,
The glories of his dying pains,
For ever telling, yet untold.

7.6. 8. The Same.

ANON.

1 STOP poor sinner! stop and think,

Before you farther go;

Will you sport upon the brink
Of everlasting woe?

All your sins will round you crowd,
Sins of a blood-crimson dye,
Each for vengeance crying loud,
And what can you reply.

2 Say have you an arm like God,
That you his will oppose?
Fear you not that iron rod,

With which he breaks his foes! Can you stand in that dread day, When he judgment shall proclaim? And the earth shall melt away Like wax before the flame?

3 Tho' your heart be made of steel, Your forehead lin'd with brass, God at length will make you feel, He will not let you pass: Sinners then in vain will call, (Though they now despise his grace,) Rocks and mountains on us fall,

And hide us from his face."

4 But as yet there is a hope,
You may his mercy know;
Though his arm is lifted up,
He still forbears the blow;
'Twas for sinners Jesus died,
Sinners be invites to come;
None who come shall be denied,

le says "There still is room."
