- Hope upon the promise leaning,
Finds secure and sacred rest;
Joy, the fruits of mercy gleaning,
Makes the soul divinely bless'd.
Patience under tribulation,
And obedience brightly shine;
0 thou Author of salvation;
Let these graces all be mine.

S. M. Faith. BEDDOME.

FAITH!-'tis a precious grace,

Where'er it is bestow'd!

It boasts of a celestial birth,
And is the gift of God!

Jesus it owns a King-
An all-atoning priest:
It claims no merit of its own,
But looks for all in Christ.

To him it leads the soul,
When fill'd with deep distress,
Flies to the fountain of his blood,
And trusts his righteousness.

4 Since 'tis thy work alone,
And that divinely free;

Lord send the Spirit of thy Son
To work this faith in me.

1 BLESSED are the sons of God,

They are bought with Christ's own
blood;

They are ransom'd from the grave,
Life eternal they shall have.

2 God did love them in his Son,
Long before the world began;
They the seal of this receive
When on Jesus they believe.

3 They are justified by grace,
They enjoy a solid peace;
All their sins are wash'd away,
They shall stand in God's great day.

4 They have fellowship with God,
Through the Mediator's blood:
One with God, with Jesus one,
Glory is in them begun.

5 They alone are truly bless'd
Heirs of God, joint heirs of Christ;
With them number'd may we be,
Here and in eternity!

Assurance.

debtor to mercy alone,

Of covenant mercy I sing;

TOPLADY.

Nor fear, with thy righteousness on,
My person and off'ring I bring;
The terors of law and of God,
With me can have nothing to do;
My Saviour's obedience and blood,
Hide all my transgressions from view.

2 The work which his goodness began,
The arm of his strength will complete;
His promise is yea, and amen,
And never was forfeited yet;

Things future, nor things that are now,
Not all things, below nor above,
Can make him his purpose forego,
Or sever my soul from his love.

3 My name from the palms of his hands, Eternity will not erase;

Imprest on his heart it remains,
In marks of indelible grace:

Yes, I to the end shall endure,
As sure as the earnest is given ;
More happy, but not more secure,
The glorifi'd spirits in heaven.

L. M. Justification & perseverance.

BEDDOME.

1 SAY, who shall God's elect condemn? "Tis Christ who for their ransom died; Rising, he intercedes for them,

And they in him are justified.

2 Not tribulation, nakedness,

Not famine, peril, or the sword,
Nor persecution or distress,

Shall seperate from Christ the Lord.

3 Nor life nor death, nor depth nor height,
Nor powers below, nor powers above,
Not present things, nor things to come,
Can change his purposes of love.

4 His sovereign mercy knows no bounds
His faithfulness shall still endure;
And those who on his word rely,
Shall find his truth for ever sure.

C. M. Sanctification. DODDRIDGE.

MY Saviour whence this streaming

blood?

And whence this foul disgrace? Whence all these pointed thorns and nails That pierce thy feet and face?

"I sanctify myself," he cries, That thou mays't holy be ; "Come view my death; come trace my life, "And learn to follow me."

O Lord we long for holiness,
And inbred sin we mourn:
To the bright path of thy commands
Our wand'ring footsteps turn.

Not more sincerely would we wish
To climb the heavn❜ly hill,

Than here, by thy own spirit's power
Thy pattern to fulfil.
