BROTHER GEORGE RICHARDS, ་ prefents his affectionate falutations, to the brethren of the Univerfal focieties, at large; more especially to thofe in the country towns, of the four New England ftates; and expreffes a humble hope, that it may please the great Master of affemblies, to blefs the following collection; and render it of Ypecial use and edification, in public and private devotion. GLORY to God in the higheft, and on earth, peace and good will towards men, as manifested by, and revealed in, Jefus Chrift our Lord, is the pleafing burthen of the facred fong; and confequently, most of the hymns in this little volume are infcribed to his folemn praife; for the worthinefs of the Lamb, is the only theme of heaven, and ought to be, the only theme on earth. A FEW particular hymns, adapted to various occa fions, may poffibly be thought an exception; but the compiler and compofer trufts, that not a hymn can be found, which does not bring Jefus to remembrance, for with him, there is but one God, in one Lord Jesus Christ, the creator of all things; the preferver of men, and the Saviour of the world, |
