Epiphany.

1.

TAIL! the day, when in the sky
Shone the Day-spring from on high;
When the star from heaven displayed
Where the Holy Child was laid!

Onward moving, that bright flame
Did the Saviour's birth proclaim;
And the Gentiles came to bring
Offerings to their Infant King.
Lord of Heaven! O may Thy light
Shine upon our darkened sight,
Till it guide us to the Rest
Where Thy people shall be blest.

May it light us on the road,
Leading to the throne of GOD :
And our offerings, may they be
Hearts devoted, Lord, to Thee.

Glory, honour, praise and love,
Be to God Who reigns above;
To the Father and the Son,
And the Spirit, Three in One.

BRIGHTEST and best of the sons of the

Dawn on our darkness and lend us thine

aid;

Star of the East, the horizon adorning,

Guide where our Infant Redeemer is laid.

Cold on His cradle the dewdrops are shining; Low lies His Head with the beast of the stall;

Angels adore Him in slumber reclining, Maker, and Monarch, and Saviour of all.

O let us bring Him our lowly oblation,

All that most dearly we cherish and prize! While in His temple our hearts' adoration Daily before Him like incense shall rise.

Brightest and best of the sons of the morning, Dawn on our darkness and lend us thine

aid;

Star of the East, the horizon adorning,

JESUS

ESUS shall reign where'er the sun Doth his successive journeys run; His kingdom stretch from shore to shore, Till suns shall rise to set no more.

To Him shall fervent prayer be made,
To Him by princes honour paid;
To His blest Name shall incense rise
With every morning sacrifice.

People and realms of every tongue
Shall hail His Love with sweetest song;
And infant voices shall proclaim
Their early blessings on His Name.

Blessings abound where'er He reigns; With joy the captive bursts his chains, The weary find eternal rest,

And all the sons of want are blest.

Be everlasting glory Thine,

O Word made Flesh, O Word Divine !
To God the Father glory be,
And Holy Ghost, eternally.

LIGHT of those whose dreary dwelling

Borders on the shades of death;
JESU, now Thy Love revealing,
Scatter every cloud beneath.

Still we wait for Thine appearing,
For the joy Thy beams impart,
Chasing all our doubts, and cheering
Every meek and contrite heart.

Shew Thy power in every nation,
O Thou Prince of Peace and Love!
Give the knowledge of salvation,
Fix our hearts on things above.

By Thine all-sufficient Merit,
Every captive soul release;
By the presence of Thy Spirit,
Guide us into perfect peace.

Honour, glory, might, dominion,
To the Father and the Son,
With the Everlasting Spirit,
Ever Three, and ever One.
