JESU

6.

ESU! the very thought of Thee
Thrills all the soul with ecstacy;
O! sweeter than the honey far,
The glimpses of Thy presence are.

;

No word is sung more sweet than this
No name is heard more full of bliss ;
No thought brings sweeter comfort nigh,
Than JESUS, Son of GoD most High!

JESU! the Hope of souls forlorn;
How good to them for sin that mourn!
To them that seek Thee, oh! how kind!
But what art Thou to them that find?

All honour, praise, and glory be,
O JESU, Virgin-born, to Thee!
To Father, and to Holy Ghost,

From men, and from the heavenly host.

Amen.

PRAISE

Sexagesima.

1.

RAISE the Lord, ye heavens adore Him, Praise Him, angels, in the height; Sun and moon, rejoice before Him, Praise Him, all ye stars and light!

Praise the Lord, for He hath spoken;
Worlds His mighty Voice obeyed;
Laws, which never shall be broken,
For their guidance He hath made.

Praise the Lord, for He is glorious;
Never shall His promise fail;
He hath made His saints victorious;
Sin and death shall not prevail.

As the saints in Heaven adore Thee,
Lord, we bow before Thy throne;
As the angels serve before Thee,
So on earth Thy will be done.

Amen.

2.

E boundless realms of joy, Exalt your Maker's fame, In praise your songs employ, Above the starry frame: Your voices raise,

Ye Cherubim

And Seraphin,

To sing His praise.

Thou moon that rul'st the night,
And sun that guid'st the day;
Ye glittering stars of light,
To Him your homage pay.
His praise declare,

Ye heavens above,

And clouds that move

In liquid air.

To GOD the Father, Son,

And Spirit, ever blest,
Eternal Three in One,
All worship be addrest:
As heretofore

It was, is now,
And shall be so
For evermore.

Amen.

3.

ET us with a gladsome mind
Praise the Lord, for He is kind;
Who by His Wisdom did create
The painted heavens so full of state,
And did the solid earth ordain
To rise above the watery plain :
For His mercies aye endure,
Ever faithful, ever sure.

Who by His all-commanding might
Did fill the new-made world with light,
And cause the golden-tressed sun
All the day long his course to run:
All living creatures He doth feed,
And with full Hand supplies their need:
For His mercies aye endure

Ever faithful, ever sure.

Glory be to GOD on high,
GOD Whose glory fills the sky;
To the Father and the Son,
With the Spirit, Three in One,
Honour, praise, and glory be,
Unto all eternity:

For His mercies aye endure,
Ever faithful, ever sure.

Amen.

Lent.

1.

MAKER of the world, give ear! O Saviour of mankind, be near! Before Thy throne our knees are bent, In this most holy fast of Lent.

Each heart is manifest to Thee;
Thou knowest our infirmity:
Forgive, O Lord, each soul that fain
Would seek to turn to Thee again.

Our sins are manifold and sore:
But pardon us, who sin deplore;
And, for Thy Mercy's sake, make whole
The wounded and the weary soul.

So mortify we every sense

By grace of outward abstinence,
That from each stain and spot of sin,
The soul may keep her fast within.

Grant, O Thou blessed Trinity,
O Everlasting Unity,

That this our fast of forty days
Be to Thy glory and Thy praise.

Amen.
