HYMN 4.

"Come over into Macedonia, and help us." Acts xvi. 9.

1. FROM Greenland's icy mountains,
From India's coral strand,

Where Afric's sunny fountains
Roll down their golden sand,
From many an ancient river,
From many a palmy plain,

They call us to deliver

Their land from error's chain.

2. What though the spicy breezes
Blow soft on Java's isle,
Though every prospect pleases,
And only man is vile;
In vain with lavish kindness
The gifts of God are strewn,
The heathen in his blindness,

Bows down to wood and stone.

3. Can we whose souls are lighted
With wisdom from on high,

Can we, to man benighted,
The lamp of life deny ?
Salvation! oh, salvation!

The joyful sound proclaim,
Till each remotest nation

Has learnt Messiah's name.

4. Waft, waft, ye winds, his story,
And you, ye waters, roll,
Till like a sea of glory

It spreads from pole to pole;
Till o'er our ransom'd nature

The Lamb for sinners slain,
Redeemer, King, Creator,

In bliss returns to reign.

HYMN 5.

HEBER.

"Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law." Ps. cxix. 18.

1. GREAT God, with wonder and with praise On all thy works I look ;

But still thy wisdom, power and grace,
Shine brightest in thy book.

2. The stars that in their courses roll,
Have much instruction given ;

But thy good word informs my soul
How I may climb to heaven.

3. The fields provide me food, and shew
The goodness of the Lord;
But fruits of life and glory grow
In thy most holy Word.

4. Here are my choicest treasures hid,
Here my best comfort lies,
Here my desires are satisfied,

And hence my hopes arise.

5. Lord, make me understand thy law,
Shew what my faults have been;
And from thy Gospel further draw
Reproof for all my sin.

6. Here would I learn how Christ has died To save my soul from hell:

Not all the books on earth beside
Such heav'nly wonders tell.

7. Then let me love my Bible more,
And take a fresh delight

By day to read these wonders o'er,
And meditate by night.

HYMN 6.

"Lovest thou me?" JOHN xxi. 16.

WATTS.

1. HARK! my soul, it is the Lord:
'Tis thy Saviour, hear his word :
Jesus speaks, and speaks to thee;

66

Say, poor sinner, lov'st thou Me?

2. "I deliver'd thee when bound,

And when bleeding heal'd thy wound;
Sought thee wandering, set thee right,
Turn'd thy darkness into light.

3. "Can a woman's tender care

Cease toward the child she bare?

Yes; she may forgetful be,

Yet will I remember thee.

4. "Mine is an unchanging love,
Higher than the height above,
Deeper than the depths beneath,
Free and faithful, strong as death.

5.

"Thou shalt see my glory soon,
When the work of grace is done;
Partner of my throne shalt be;
Say, poor sinner, lov'st thou Me?"

6. Lord, it is my chief complaint
That my love is weak and faint;
Yet I wonder and adore:

Oh! for grace to love Thee more!
(Aaron, New.)

COWPER.

HYMN 7.

"And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb." REV. xv. 3.

1. HARK! the notes of angels singing
Glory, glory to the Lamb:

All in heav'n their tribute bringing,
Praising high the Saviour's name.

2. Ye for whom this life was given,
Sacred hymns to you belong;
Come assist the choir of heaven,

Join the everlasting song.

3. Saints and angels, thus united,

Songs imperfect still must raise;
Though despis'd on earth, and slighted,
Jesus has eternal praise.

4. Endless life in Him possessing
Let us praise his sacred name:
Glory, honour, pow'r, and blessing
Be for ever to the Lamb!

HYMN 8.

"Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation." 1 PETER i. 5.

1. HELP, Lord, to Thee for help I fly,
And still my tempted soul stand by,
Throughout the evil day;

A sacred watchfulness impart,

And keep the issues of my heart,
And stir me up to pray.

2. My soul with all thine armour arm;
In each approach of sin, alarm,

And shew the danger near;

Surround, sustain, and strengthen me,
Fill me with godly jealousy,
And sanctifying fear.

3. In me thy utmost mercy shew,
And make me like Thyself below;
