HYMN

CLXXVII.

Prayer for Salvation.

ESUS, fhew us thy Salvation,
In thy Strength we ftrive with thee,
By thy myftic Incarnation,

By thy pure Nativity:

Arm us with thy felf-denial,
Ev'ry tempted Soul defend,
Save us in the fiery Tryal,
Make us faithful to the End.

By thy dear blood-shedding heal us,
Cut us off from every Sin,
By thy Circumcifion feal us,
Write thy Law of Love within;
Save us, thou our dear Redeemer,
Into all our Souls impart,
Thy divine and heav'nly Nature,
Form thyfelf within our Heart.

HYMN

CLXXVIII.

The diftrefs'd Sinner.

Retched, helpless, and distress'd,
Ah! whither fhall I fly,

WR

Ever gafping after rest,

I cannot find it nigh;

Naked, Sick, and Poor, and Blind,
Faft bound in Sin and Mifery,
Friend of Sinners, let me find,
My Help, my All in thee.

Jefus,

Jefus, full of Truth and Grace,
In thee is all I want,

Be the Wanderers refting Place,
A Cordial to the Faint;
Over me thy Mantle spread,

Send down thy Likeness from above,
Let thy Goodness be difplay'd,
And wrap me in thy Love.

HYMN

CLXXIX.

The Backflider.

JESU, full of pard'ning Grace,
More full of Grace, than I of Sin,
Yet once again I feek thy Face,
Open thine Arms, and take me in,
And freely my Backflidings heal,
And love the faithlefs Sinner ftill.

Thou know'ft the Way to bring me back,
My fallen Spirit to restore,

O, for thy Truth and Mercy fake,
Forgive, and bid me Sin no more;
The ruins of my Soul repair,

And make my Heart an House of Pray'r.

Ah! give me, Lord, the tender Heart,
That trembles at th'approach of Sin,
A godly Fear of Sin impart,
Implant, and root it deep within,
That I may dread thy gracious Pow'r,
And never dare offend thee more.

[blocks in formation]

E reigns! the Lord our Saviour reigns!
Praise him in evangelick Strains!
Let all the Earth in Songs rejoice,
And diftant Islands join their Voice.

The Lord is come, the Heav'ns proclaim
His Birth, the Nations learn his Name;
An unknown Star directs the Road,
Of Eaftern Sages, to their God.

All ye bright armies of the Skies,
Go worship where the Saviour lies;
Angels and Kings before him bow,
The Great on high, and Great below.

Rejoice, ye Chriftians, and record
The facred Honours of the Lord,
None but the Souls that feel his Grace,
Can triumph in his Holiness.

Salvation.

SA

Alvation! O the joyful Sound!
What Pleasure to our Ears!
A fov'reign Balm for ev'ry Wound,
A Cordial for our Fears.

Buried in Sorrow, and in Sin,
At Hell's dark Door we lay!

Oh

Oh may we rife by Grace divine,
To fee a heavn❜ly Day!

Salvation! let the Eccho fly
The fpacious Earth around,
While all the Armies of the Sky
Conspire to raise the Sound.

HEAVEN.

RISE,

A , my Soul, arife,

And view th'Almighty's Throne,
Humble and joyful lift thine Eyes
To Lands of Peace unknown.

High in eternal Praise,

Clad in a fhining Cloud,

Refides the King of endless Days;

The great Creator God.

Girt with a golden Belt,

My dear Redeemer ftands,

And ftain'd with Blood for Sinners fpilt,
He spreads his wounded Hands.

In Beauty, Love, and Peace,

He reigns triumphant now,

And pard'ning Pow'r, and faving Grace,
Sits glorious on his Brow.

There, Tribulation's Sons

After their noble ftrife,

Rejoicing, reft on dazling Thrones,

And wear the Crown of Life.

Dear

Dear Jefus, and fhall I,

E'er in thefe Courts adore: O feal me this before I Die, And, Lord, I ask no more.

HYMN

CLXXXIII.

Mofes Dying in the Embraces of God.

EATH cannot make our Souls afraid,
If God be with us there,

We may walk thro' the darkest Shade,
And never yield to Fear.

Might we but climb to Pifgah's Top,
And view the promis'd Land;
Our Flesh itself should long to drop,
And pray for the Command.

Clafp'd in our heav'nly Father's Arms,
We would forget our Breath,

And loose our Life among

Of fo divine a Death."
