HOME all, and hear of Jefu's Love,
O may his Spirit from above,

COM

Tune our Hearts and Tongues to raise
His Praise, in loud harmonious Lays.

Of him, who did Salvation bring,
We could for ever think and fing:
His Grace but afk, and 'twill be giv'n,
He'll raise and turn your Hell to Heav'n.

O wond'rous Jefu! greatest King,
All Heav'n doth with thy Triumphs ring;
Still let our Tongues refound thy Name,
And Jefus be our conftant Theme.

To fhame our Sins, Chrift blush'd in Blood,
He clos'd his Eyes to fhew us God:
May all the World fall down and know,
That none but God fuch Love could fhew..

HYMN CXCVIII.

Commit thy Ways unto the Lord, &c...

Ommit thy Ways and Goings,
And all that grieve thy Soul,

To him, whose wifeft Doings-
Rule all, without controul:

Unto

Unto the Lord turn wholly,
For he will never fail,
To rescue thee from Folly,
If thou doft but bewail.

Truft alfo in him ever,
Without reluctant Will,
His Promifes will never

Once come behind thy Zeal:
His Goodnefs knows no Measure,
His Love and Care no End,
For fuch as wait with Pleasure,
'Till he Salvation fend.

Bring it to pafs, O blessed,

Above what Words can tell,

And fee us all released

From Sin, and Death, and Hell: Direct us, O moft Holy,

In the bleft heav'nly Way; That leads thro' this dark Valley, To everlasting Day.

[blocks in formation]

Lung'd in a Gulph of dark Despair,
We wretched Sinners lay,

PL

Without one chearful Beam of Hope,
Or fpark of glimm❜ring Day.

With pitying Eyes, the Prince of Grace,
Beheld our helpless Grief!

He

He faw, and (O amazing Love !)
He ran to our Relief.

Down from the shining Seats above,
With joyful Hafte he fled,
Enter'd the Grave in mortal Flesh,
And dwelt among the Dead.

Oh! for this Love let Rocks and Hills
Their lafting Silence break,
And all harmonious human Tongues,
The Saviour's Praises fpeak.

Angels affift our mighty Joys,
Strike all your Harps of Gold;
But when you raise your highest Notes,
His Love can ne'er be told.

HYMN

Before Preaching.

HE hand of our God
Has brought us again,

(A Favour beftow'd,
We hope not in vain)
To hear from our Saviour,
The Word of his Grace,
Then be our Behaviour
Becoming the Place.

Now help us O Lord,

With Praise and with Pray'r

To practice thy Word,
And worship with Fear;

CC.

Help

Help us with Contrition,
To own what we've done,
And give us remiffion

Thro' Chrift thy dear Son.

Bleft Spirit of Chrift,
Help us to believe,
Thy Servants affift,

In Chrift for to Live:
O fend us thy Unction,
To teach us all good,
Apply free Remiffion,
In Chrift's precious Blood.

HYM N CCI.

The Christian Warfare.

Tand up, bleft Souls, shake off your Fears,
And gird the Gospel Armour on,

[ocr errors]

March to the Gates of endless Joy,

Where your great Captain, Saviour's gone.

Hell and your Sins refift your Course,
But Hell and Sin are vanquifh'd Foes,
Your Jefus nail'd them to the Cross,
And fung the Triumph when he rose.

Then let your Souls march boldly on,
Prefs forward to the heav'nly Gate;
There Peace and Joy eternal reign,
And glitt'ring Robes for Conqu❜rors wait.

There

There may we wear a ftarry Crown,
And triumph in Almighty Grace,
While all the Armies of the Sky,
Join in our glorious Leader's Praife.

IKE Sheep we went aftray,
And broke the Fold of God,

Each wand'ring in a diff'rent Way,
But all the downward Road.

How dreadful was the Hour When God our Wand'rings laid! And did at once his Vengeance pour Upon the Shepherd's Head!

How glorious was the Grace, When Chrift fuftain'd the Stroke! His Life and Blood, the Shepherd pays A Ranfom for the Flock.

His joyful Soul shall fee
The purchase of his Pain;
And by his Knowledge juftify
The guilty Sons of Men.

Heav'n fhall advance God's Son
To Joys that Earth deny'd;

Who faw the Follies Men had done,
And bore their Sins and dy'd.
