FIFTH SERVICE.

T The Minister shall say one or more of the following sentences, and then the Address, which comes after; all standing.

I

WAS glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord. Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem. Ps. cxxii. I, 2.

Thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones. Is. lvii. 15.

Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. Matt. xviii. 20.

DE

EARLY beloved brethren, the preparations of the heart are with the Lord. Let us beseech him to help us in our infirmities by his Holy Spirit, that the praise and supplications which we offer up

with one voice and one heart may be acceptable to him, and bring down an answer of peace to our souls.

¶ Then shall the Minister and the People say the following alternate sentences; all kneeling.

Minister. O Lord, open to us the gates of right

eousness:

People. And we will go in at them.

Minister. Blessed is the man whom thou choosest and causest to approach thee;

People. That he may dwell in thy courts.

Minister. We shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house;

People. Even of thy holy temple.

Minister. As rest is sweet to the weary and the cooling stream to him that is athirst, so let thy day and thy house be rest sweet unto us, and thy word a fountain of living water. As the hart desireth the water-brooks, so may our souls thirst after thee, and our hearts and our flesh rejoice in the living God. Amen.

TOr, instead of the foregoing alternate sentences, the following Prayer may be said by the Minister; the People responding with "AMEN."

O

LORD our God, who hast brought us to the beginning of another week, and vouchsafed to us this season of holy rest; look down, we pray thee, on thy worshipping people now before thee. May we have in remembrance thy works of right

eousness and of love, and in our humble measure feel what that divine goodness must be, which continues to take care of us from week to week and from year to year, and which was the same in the time of our fathers and the old time before them. But most of all, O heavenly Father, we thank thee for thy boundless grace and mercy in Jesus Christ. In his spirit may we come to thee at this time with our glad homage and filial obedience. O Thou, unto whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid, cleanse, we beseech thee, the thoughts of our hearts by the inspirations of thy Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love thee, and worthily magnify thy hallowed name. Amen.

Then the Lord's Prayer, to be said by the People after the Minister.
UR Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be

thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

O

Then shall be said or sung the following Psalm, all standing.
CANTATE DOMINO. Ps. xcvi.

SING unto the Lord a new song: sing unto
the Lord, all the earth.

Sing unto the Lord, bless his name: show forth his salvation from day to day.

Declare his glory among the heathen: his wonders among all people.

For the Lord is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods.

Honour and majesty are before him: strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.

Give unto the Lord, O ye kindreds of the people: give unto the Lord glory and strength.

Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come into his courts.

O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth.

Say among the heathen that the Lord reigneth: the world also shall be established that it shall not be moved; he shall judge the people righteously.

Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad: let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof.

Let the field be joyful, and all that is therein: then shall all the trees of the wood rejoice before the Lord;

For he cometh, for he cometh to judge the earth: he will judge the world with righteousness, and the people with his truth.

Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible: the only wise God;

Be honour and glory: for ever and ever. Amen.

Then shall be read the FIRST LESSON, taken out of the Old

Testament.

After that, shall be said or sung the following Hymn, called
TE DEUM LAUDAMUS.

WE praise thee, O God: we acknowledge thee

to be the Lord.

All the earth doth worship thee: the Father everlasting.

To thee all Angels cry aloud: the Heavens, and all the Powers therein.

To thee Cherubim and Seraphim: continually do cry,

Holy, Holy, Holy: Lord God of hosts;

Heaven and Earth are full: of the Majesty of thy Glory.

The glorious company of the Apostles: praise thee.

The goodly fellowship of the Prophets: praise thee.

The noble army of Martyrs: praise thee.

The holy Church throughout all the world: doth acknowledge thee,

The Father of an infinite Majesty;

Thy beloved, true: and glorified Son;
Thy Holy Spirit also: the Comforter.

Thou art the King of Glory: [of Glory] O God. Thou didst not suffer: thy Holy One to see corruption;

Thou gavest him the victory over Sin and Death;

And openest the Kingdom of Heaven: to all the faithful;
