795 CORRECTIONS AND ALTERATIONS TO PART IV. The Fourth Chapter of The Gospel according to St. John, was, in the First Edition, unintentionally omitted in the quotations; but is intentionally omitted in this, and for the same reasons as there hopefully assigned, that the study of it by the Readers hereof may draw forth from them suitable Corresponding reflections on our SAVIOUR's Assertion of His MESSIAHSHIP in His converse with the Woman at the well of Samaria; and the Proof of His Omniscience in her admission of His Knowledge of her character and circumstances in all her past life-and on the Evidence of His Omnipotence, in the Healing at the instant, and by the mere Utterance of The Word, the sick Son of the Ruler when at the point of death, and at such distance from the Child as Capernaum from Cana in Galilee. Here, as in the former Edition, some capital letters may have been overlooked, where for consistency' sake, and in accordance with the spirit of the Work, to give glory to GOD, they should have been used. Some may have been misplaced, as inapplicable, and occasionally stops might have been improved: but for such oversights, in a work of this extent, allowances will, in candour, be made. In Family reading, and where adopting the suggested divisional reading, as in the mark from the length of the references and observations, the Text may be read again on resuming the Passage, and its further treatise.
