Revelation v, 9. (L. M.)

1 NOW let us join with hearts and tongues, And emulate the angels' songs:

Yea, sinners may address their King,
In songs that angels cannot sing,

2 They praise the Lamb, who once was slain, But we can add a higher strain,

Not only say, "He suffer'd thus,"
But that, "He suffer'd all for us!"
3 But ah! how faint our praises rise;
Sure 'tis the wonder of the skies,
That we, who share his richest love,
So cold, so unconcern'd should prove!
4 Oh glorious hour! it comes with speed,
When we from sin and darkness freed,
Shall see his face, who died for man,
And praise him more than angels can!

Hebrews iv, 14—16. (L. M.)

1 WHERE high the heav'nly temple stands,
The house of God, not made with hands,
A great High Priest, our nature wears,
The guardian of mankind appears.

2 He, who for men their surety stood,
And pour'd on earth, his precious blood,
Pursues in heav'n his mighty plan,
The Saviour and the Friend of man.

3 In ev'ry pang that rends the heart,
The Man of Sorrows had a part:
He sympathizes with our grief,
And to the sufferer sends relief.

4 With boldness therefore, at the throne,
Let us make all our sorrows known,
And ask the aids of heav'nly power,
To help us in the evil hour.

Genesis xxii, 14. (P. M.)

1 THOUGH troubles assail

And dangers affright,

Though friends should all fail
And foes all unite:
Yet one thing secures us,
Whatever betide,
The scripture assures us,
"The Lord will provide."

2 When Satan appears,
To stop up our path,
And fill us with fears,

We triumph by faith:
He cannot take from us,
Though oft he has tried,
The heart-cheering promise,
"The Lord will provide."

3 No strength of our own,
Or goodness we claim,
Yet sure we have known

The Saviour's great name;

In this our strong tower,
For safety we hide,
The Lord is our power,
"The Lord will provide."

100 Hebrews xii, 22-23. (c.M.)

1 LET saints below in concert sing,
With those to glory gone;

For all the servants of our King,
In heav'n and earth are one!

2 One family we dwell in him,
One church above, beneath;
Though now divided by the stream,
The narrow stream of death!

3 One army of the living God,
To his command we bow:

Part of the host have cross'd the flood,
And part are crossing now.

4 O Jesus, be our constant guide,
Then when the word is giv'n,

Bid Jordan's narrow stream divide,
And land us safe in heav'n.

Psalm xx, 7. (C. M.)

1 REMEMBER thee! remember Christ!

While mem'ry holds her place,

Can we forget the Lord of life,
Who saves us by his grace?

2 His glory now, no tongue of man,
Or seraph bright can tell;

Yet still the chief of all his joys,
That souls are sav'd from hell!

3 For this he came, and dwelt on earth,
For this his life was giv'n,

For this he fought, and vanquish'd death,
For this he pleads in heav'n!

4 Join all ye saints beneath the sky,
Your grateful praise to give;
Sing loud hosannas to the Lord,
Who died, that you might live!

Ephesians vi, 18. (L. M.)

1 WHAT various hindrances we meet,

In coming to a mercy-seat;

Yet, who that knows the worth of pray'r,
But wishes to be often there!

2 Pray'r makes the darken'd cloud withdraw;
Pray'r climbs the ladder Jacob saw :
Gives exercise to faith and love,
Brings every blessing from above!

3 Restraining pray'r, we cease to fight;
Pray'r makes the christian's armour bright:
And Satan trembles when he sees

The weakest saint upon his knees.

Psalm v, 3. (c. M.)

1 THROUGH all the dangers of the night,
Preserv'd, O Lord, by thee:
Again we hail the cheerful light,
Again we bow the knee.

2 Preserve us, Lord, throughout the day,
And guide us by thine arm :
For they are safe, and only they,
Whom thou preserv'st from harm.

3 Let all our words, and all our ways,
Declare that we are thine,

That so the light of truth and grace,
Before the world may shine.

4 Let us ne'er turn away from thee,
But, Saviour, hold us fast,

Till with immortal eyes we see
Thy glorious face at last.

Psalm lxxxiv. (P. M.)

1 HOW honour'd, how dear,

That sacred abode,

Where christians draw near
Their Father and God:
Mid worldly commotion,
My wearied soul faints,
For the house of devotion,
The home of thy saints.
