2 Rebel, ye waves, and o'er the land With threat'ning aspect roar; The Lord uplifts his awful hand, And chains you to the shore.
3 Howl, winds of night, your force combine, Without his high behest,
Ye shall not in the mountain pine Disturb the sparrow's nest.
4 Ye nations bend, in rev'rence bend, Ye monarchs wait his nod, And bid the choral song ascend, To celebrate your God.
1 THE Lord our God is Lord of all, His station who can find?
I hear him in the waterfall! I hear him in the wind!
2 If in the gloom of night I shroud, His face I cannot fly;
I see him in the evening cloud, And in the morning sky.
3 He bids his blasts the fields deform, Then, when his thunders cease,
Sits as the ruler of the storm, And smiles the winds to peace!
Psalm xxxiv, 1—4. (P. M.)
1 FAITHLESS to my Saviour? never, Never more I'll be ;
He has loved, and loves me ever; He has died for me!
2 Often from the fold I wander'd; Griev'd his holy will;
Oft the choicest gifts I squander'd, But he lov'd me still!
3 How the kindest calls I've slighted, When his Spirit strove!
Hours neglected! mercies blighted! Still I had his love!
4 Lord, I turn to thee, and never, Never more I'll roam;
Serve thee, soul and spirit, ever, Till thou bring'st me home.
Colossians iii, 16. (c. M.)
1 COME, blessed Spirit, fill my soul With my Redeemer's praise;
To thee, my God, my Friend, my all, My cheerful voice I'll raise.
2 My heart would joy in thee, my Lord; My tongue thy grace declare;
And psalms and hymns, and sacred songs, My day and night should share.
3 Accept then, Lord, my weak desires To bless and praise thy name; And may my life, in stronger words, Set forth my ardent aim.
4 To thee I look, to thee I cry; Oh hear my suppliant voice! Fill me with love, with patience, hope, And humbly I'll rejoice.
Revelation XV, 3. (s. M.)
1 AWAKE, and sing the song Of Moses and the Lamb:
Wake ev'ry heart and ev'ry tongue, To praise the Saviour's name.
2 Sing of his dying love,
Sing of his rising pow'r, Sing how he intercedes above, For those whose sins he bore!
3 Sing on your heav'nly way,
Ye ransom'd sinners, sing: Sing on, rejoicing ev'ry day,
In Christ th' eternal King!
4 Soon shall we hear him say,
"Ye blessed children, come;" Soon will he call us hence away,
And take his wand'rers home.
1 GRACIOUS Spirit, love divine, Let thy light within me shine: All my guilty fears remove, Fill me full of heav'n and love.
2 Speak thy pard'ning grace to me, Set the burden'd sinner free: Lead me to the Lamb of God, Wash me in his precious blood. 3 Life and peace to me impart, Seal salvation on my heart, Breathe thyself into my breast, Earnest of eternal rest.
4 Let me never from thee stray, Keep me in the narrow way; Fill my soul with joy divine, Keep me, Lord, for ever thine.
1 GREAT God of Abra'am, hear our pray'r, Let Abra'am's seed thy mercy share: Oh! may they now at length return, And look on him they pierc'd, and mourn. 2 Remember Jacob's flock of old,
Bring home the wand'rers to thy fold; Remember too thy promis'd word, "Israel at last shall seek the Lord."
3 Lord, put thy law within their hearts, And write it in their inward parts; The veil of darkness rend in two, Which hides Messiah from their view.
4 Oh! haste the day, foretold so long, When Jew and Greek, (a glorious throng,) One house shall seek, one pray'r shall pour, And one Redeemer shall adore.
1 Corinthians vii, 35. (L. M. 6's.)
1 THY presence, gracious Lord, afford, Prepare us to receive thy word: Now let thy voice engage our ear, And faith be mix'd with what we hear; Thus, Lord, thy waiting servants bless, And crown thy gospel with success.
2 Distracting thoughts and cares remove, And fix our hearts and hopes above; With food divine, may we be fed, And satisfied with living bread : Thus, Lord, thy waiting servants bless, And crown thy gospel with success.
3 To us thy sacred word apply, With sov'reign pow'r and energy ; And may we, in thy faith and fear, Reduce to practice what we hear: Thus, Lord, thy waiting servants bless, And crown thy gospel with success.
