4 Hear, Lord, thy children's pray'r, and still
Let the full tide of bounty flow;
That thousands yet unborn may learn
Thy will, and all thy mercies know.

Ezekiel xxxvii, 9. (L. M.)

1 O SPIRIT of the living God!
In all thy plenitude of grace,
Where'er the foot of man hath trod,
Descend upon our fallen race!

2 Give tongues of fire, and hearts of love,
To preach the reconciling word;
Give pow'r and unction from above,
Where'er the joyful sound is heard.
3 O Spirit of the Lord! prepare

The wide-spread earth, her God to meet;
Breathe thou abroad, like morning air,
Till hearts of stone begin to beat.

4 Baptize the nations:-far and nigh, The triumphs of the cross record; The name of Jesus glorify,

Till ev'ry kindred call him Lord.

Psalm v, 1-3. (c. M.)

1 TO thee, O Lord, with dawning light,
My thankful voice I'll raise;

Thy mighty pow'r to celebrate,
Thy holy name to praise :-

2 For thou, in helpless hour of night,
Hast compassed my bed,

And now refresh'd, with peaceful sleep,
Thou liftest up my head.

3 Grant me, O God, thy quick'ning grace,
Thro' this and ev'ry day;
That, guided and upheld by thee,
My feet may never stray.

4 Increase my faith, increase my hope,
Increase my zeal and love;
And fix my heart's affections all
On Christ and things above.

5 And when, life's labours o'er, I sink
To slumber in the grave;

In death's dark vale, be thou my trust,
To succour and to save.

6 That so thro' him, who bled and died,
And rose again for me,

"The grave and gate of death"
A passage home to thee.

2 Timothy iii, 15. (L. M.)

may prove

1 HOW blest are they who early taught
To know and love the word of truth;
Far from the sinner's path are brought
To serve their Maker in their youth.

2 And blest are they, whose pious care
Forbids the youthful foot to stray;
Unfolds the book of truth, and there
To life eternal points the way.

3 Accept our praise, O Lord, and still
Let streams of heav'nly goodness flow;
That all the earth may learn thy will,
And babes thy power and glory shew.

177 Isaiah xlvi, 12—13. (P.M.)
1 O GOD! thy saving grace impart,
And deeply on each thoughtless heart
Eternal things impress;

Give us to feel their solemn weight,
To tremble at our guilty state,
And wake to righteousness.

2 Be this our one great object here,
With godly jealousy and fear,
To make our calling sure;
Thine utmost counsel to fulfil,
To suffer all thy righteous will,
And to the end endure.

3 Then, gracious Lord, our souls receive,
Transported from this world to live
And reign with thee above;
Where faith is lost in perfect sight,
And hope in full supreme delight,
And everlasting love.

Psalm lxviii, 18. (L. M.)

1 LORD, when thou didst ascend on high, Ten thousand angels fill'd the sky; Those heav'nly guards around thee wait, Like chariots that attend thy state.

2 Not Sinai's mountain could appear
More glorious when the Lord was there;
While he pronounc'd his dreadful law,
And struck the chosen tribes with awe.

3 How bright the triumph none can tell,
When the rebellious pow'rs of hell,
That thousand souls had captive made,
Were all in chains like captives led.

4 Rais'd by his Father to the throne,
He sent the promis'd Spirit down,
With gifts and grace for rebel men,
That God might dwell on earth again.

179 Romans xii, 1—2. (L. M., sixes.)

1 WHEN like lost sheep we wander'd wide,
And left the watchful Shepherd's eye;
When borne along th' impetuous tide
Of this world's sin and vanity,

Our Jesus from the heav'ns came down,
To save us by his
grace alone.

2 He bore our sins upon the tree;
To seek and save the lost, he came ;
There was he bound to set us free
From death and everlasting shame;
The captive flock from hell was freed,
And ransom'd when the Shepherd bled.

3 Before the Father's awful throne Our merciful high-priest he stands, And interceding for his own,

The purchas'd remnant now demands; His people's everlasting friend, Who, loving, loves them to the end. 4 While life endures may we rejoice, Him for our Lord and God to own, To take him as our only choice, And cleave to him in love alone; Be growing up in holiness,

Then meet him in the realms of peace.

5 Then shall our grateful songs abound, And ev'ry tear be wip'd away!

No sin, no sorrow, shall be found,
No night o'ercloud the endless day:
O praise him, all beneath! above!
O praise him! praise the God of love!

Psalm lxv, 11. (7's.)

1 BLESS, O Lord, the op'ning year,
To each soul assembled here;
Clothe the word with pow'r divine,
Make us willing to be thine.

2 Shepherd of thy blood-bought sheep,
Teach the stony heart to weep;
Let the blind have eyes to see,
See themselves and look on thee!
