Isaiah ix, 6. (L. M.)

1 MY song shall bless the Lord of all,
My praise shall climb to his abode ;
Thee, Saviour, by that name I call,
The great Supreme, the mighty God!
2 Without beginning or decline,
Object of faith, and not of sense,
Eternal ages saw him shine,
He shines eternal ages hence !

3 Of all the crowns Jehovah bears,
Salvation is his dearest claim,

That gracious sound well pleas'd he hears,
And owns Emmanuel for his name!

Revelations v, 13. (c. M.)

1 COME, let us join our cheerful songs,
With angels round the throne,

Ten thousand thousand are their tongues,
But all their joys are one.

2 "Worthy the Lamb that died," they cry, "To be exalted thus:"

"Worthy the Lamb," our lips reply, "For he was slain for us.

3 Jesus is worthy to receive

[ocr errors]

Honour and power divine,

And blessings more than we can give,
Be, Lord, for ever thine.

4 Let all that dwell below the sky,
And air, and earth, and seas,
Conspire to lift thy glories high,
And speak thine endless praise.

5 The whole creation join in one,
To bless the sacred name,
Of him that sits upon the throne,
And to adore the Lamb.

Zechariah xiii, 1. (c. M.)

1 THERE is a fountain fill'd with blood,
Drawn from Immanuel's veins,
And sinners, plung'd beneath that flood,
Lose all their guilty stains.

2 The dying thief rejoic'd to see
That fountain in his day;
And there may I, as vile as he,
Wash all my sins away.

3 Lord, I believe thou hast prepar'd,
(Unworthy though I be,)

For me a blood-bought free reward,
A golden harp for me!

4 'Tis strung, and tun'd for endless years, And form'd by power divine,

To sound in God the Father's ears,
No other name but thine.

John iii, 18. (c. M.)

1 LORD, when we bend before thy throne,
And our confessions pour,
Teach us to feel the sins we own,
And shun what we deplore.

2 When our responsive tongues essay,
Their grateful songs to raise;
Grant that our souls may join the lay,
And rise to thee in praise.

3 When we disclose our wants in pray'r,
May we our wills resign;
And not a thought our bosom share,
Which is not wholly thine.

4 Let faith each meek petition fill,
And waft it to the skies;

And teach our hearts, 'tis goodness still That grants it or denies.

Psalm lxxii, 17-19. (D. L. M.)

1 BLESSED be thy name for ever,
Thou, of life the guard and giver:

Thou can'st guard thy creatures sleeping,
Heal the heart long broke with weeping;
God of stillness and of motion,
Of the desert and the ocean,
Of the mountain, rock and river,
Blessed be thy name for ever!

2 Thou, who slumb'rest not nor sleepest, Blest are they thou kindly keepest ; God of ev'ning's parting ray,

Of midnight's gloom and dawning day,
That rises from the azure sea,
Like breathings of eternity;
God of life, that fadeth never,
Blessed be thy name for ever!

Hebrews iv, 9. (C. M.)

1 LORD, I believe a rest remains
To all thy people known;

A rest where pure enjoyment reigns,
And thou art lov'd alone!

2 Celestial Spirit, make me know
That I shall enter in ;

Now, Saviour, now thy power bestow,
And wash me from my sin.

3 Remove this hardness from my heart, This unbelief remove;

To me the rest of faith impart,
The sabbath of thy love!

4 Come, O my Saviour, come away,
Into my soul descend,

No longer from thy creature stay,
My Author and my End!

Psalm xix, 8. (L. M.)

1 I LOVE the sacred book of God,
No other can its place supply;
It points me to the saints' abode ;
It gives me wings, and bids me fly.
2 Sweet book! in thee my eyes discern
The image of my absent Lord:
From thine instructive page I learn
The joys his presence will afford.
3 In thee I read my title clear,

To mansions that will ne'er decay ;
My Lord, oh when will he appear,
And bear his pris'ner far away?

4 Then shall I need thy light no more,
For nothing shall be then conceal'd:
When I have reach'd the heav'nly shore,
The Lord himself will stand reveal'd.

5 But while I'm here, thou shalt supply
His place, and tell me of his love;
I'll read with faith's discerning eye,
And get a taste of joys above!

Isaiah lxiii, 16. (c. M.)

1 OUR Father sits on yonder throne,
Amidst the hosts above;

He reigns throughout the world alone,
He reigns, the God of love!
