one. The reafon of which feems to be this, That this Burnt-offering being of the Herd, required greater help than those which follow, which were of the Flocks or Fowls.

9. But his inwards and his legs Shall he wash in water: and the priest shall burn all on the altar, to be a burnt facrifice, an offering made by fire, of a fweet favour unto the LORD.

CHAP. II.

The ARGUMENT.

Of the Meat-offering of fine Flour. The remnant of it affigned to the Priest. Of feveral ways of preparing the Meat-offering, viz. baking it in an Oven or Pan, or frying it. Leaven and Honey in these Meat-offerings probibited, but Salt required. Of the Firftfruits.

I.

AND when any will offer a

meat-offering unto the LORD, his offering fhall be of

8. 2. Here it is confidered as an Offering made to God of that which was inanimate. There were feveral kinds of them both publick and private. And fome there were which were offered, alone, and by themfelves. Others which were to attend upon other Oblations, Num, 15.4,6. The first fort are spoken of here. This Offering was Expatory, Sam. 3. 14. and ch. 26. 19. and being a figure of Chrift's Oblation (Eph. 5.2.) was thereupon to ceale, Pf 40, 6. Heb. 19.5. as it is thought to be expressly foretold,

may well be fo called, viz. (I.). With refpect to the Offe

ring, it being taken in place of the whole that was due, Num. 5. 26. (II.) With respect to the Offerer, as a Memorial or Teftimony of his acceptance with God, Exod. 26, 16. Pf. 20. 4. (III.) With refpect to God to whom the Oblation was made. This being an act of Worship, and Acknowledgment of his Sovereignty and Divine Perfections, Lev. 24.7. which is fometimes expreffed by Remembring, Ecclef. 12. 1. Chron. 16.4. and the Title of Pf. 38.

3. And the remnant of the meatoffering fhall be Aaron's and his fons: it is a thing moft holy of the offerings of the LORD made by fire,

And the Offerers, and those who eat of their fhare, are warned onely that they be clean, and that the Flesh of the Sacrifice be preferved clean ako, Lév. 7. 19. But the Moft Holy Sacrifices were not to be eaten by any but by the Priests onely: And those Priests, who upon the return from the Captivity of Babylon could not make out their Pedigree, and confequently their juft claim to the Priesthood, were not permitted to eat of thefe moft Holy Things, Ezra 2.63.

10. And that which is left of the meat-offering, fhall be Aaron's and his fons it is a thing moft holy, of the offerings of the LORD made by fire.

11. No meat-offering, which ye fhall bring unto the LORD, fhall be made with leaven: for ye shall burn no leaven, nor any honey, in any offering of the LORD made by fire.

12. As for the oblation of the firft-fruits, ye shall offer them unto the LORD: but they shall not be a sweet savour.

13. And every oblation of thy meat-offering fhalt thou feafon with falt; neither shalt thou fuffer the falt of the covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy meat-offering: with all thine offerings thou shalt offer falt.
