HARRIS.

So many sermons are continually brought before the public that some special cause seems to be needed for the publication of any new ones. But the preacher of the few here selected was endeared to so large a number of persons, and his work was in many ways so remarkable, that it has been felt that some such memorial could not fail to be valuable to those who have reason to remember gratefully their contact with him.

It was in the year 1839, when a boy of five or six years old, that George Collyer Harris's home was first fixed at Torquay.

He was born at Toronto, in Upper Canada, but he never knew the mother that bore him, and from whom he inherited his gentleness and amiability, for she died within a few days of his birth. But from
