MONDAY MORNING.

THUS, saith the Lord, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him, I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of supplication.

And it shall come to pass, that before they call I will answer, and whilst they are yet speaking I will hear.

Let us therefore lift up our hearts, with our hands, unto God in the heavens.

Let us worship, and bow down, and let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.

For the Lord is a God of mercy and pity, who will abundantly pardon and put away transgression and sin.

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Glory be to the Father, &c.

PRAYER FOR REMISSION OF SINS.

We do not present our supplications before thee, O Lord, for our righteousness, but for thy manifold and great mercies; give us a humble sense of our own unworthiness, and of our entire dependance upon thy fatherly goodness, and bless us with forgiveness and remission of all our sins through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Then shall all repeat

THE LORD'S PRAYER.

COLLECT.

O Almighty God, who alone canst order the unruly wills and affections of sinful men, grant unto thy people, that they may love the thing which thou commandest, and desire that which thou dost promise; that so, among the sundry and manifold changes of the world, our hearts may surely there be fixed where true joys are to be found; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYER FOR A BLESSING ON OUR LABOURS.

O God, who hast ordained that whatever is to be desired should be sought by labour, and who by thy blessing bringest honest labour to good effect, look with mercy upon all our humble endeavours and exertions in the discharge of our daily duties; grant us, O Lord, by thy Holy Spirit to design only what is lawful and right; enable us to shun sloth and negligence, that every day we may discharge part of the task allotted us; and so further with thy help that labour which without thy help must be ineffectual, that we may obtain in all our undertakings such success as will promote thy glory, and the salvation of our own souls, for the sake of Jesus Christ, thine only Son our Lord. Amen.

BENEDICTORY PRAYER.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, &c.

MONDAY EVENING.

KNOW thou the God of thy Father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind; for the Lord searcheth all hearts and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts.

Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him, but it shall not be well with the wicked.

And God accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor, for they are all the work of his hands.

But to this man will I look, saith the Lord, even to him that is of a contrite spirit, and who trembleth at my word.

God resisteth the proud, but he saveth such as be of a contrite spirit; yea, a humble and contrite heart, O Lord, wilt thou not despise.

Glory be to the Father, &c.

PRAYER FOR HUMILITY.

O Lord, make clean our hearts within us, and take not thy Holy Spirit from us: give us true and unfeigned humility of mind, and deep contrition under the sense of our sins, that we, whose consciences are by sin accused, by thy merciful pardon may be absolved, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Then shall all repeat

THE LORD'S PRAYER.

Our Father, which art in heaven, &c.

PRAYER FOR THE INFLUENCE OF THE SPIRIT.

Almighty God, teach us by the inspiration of thy Holy Spirit to despise the world, and to

labour for the true riches, for the kingdom of heaven and its righteousness.

To be content with what thou providest for us here in this world; as strangers and pilgrims, abstaining from all fleshly lusts which war against the soul; forgetting those things that are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, may we press towards the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Give us a heart compassionate to the poor, liberal to the needy, open and undisguised, free from all low and base desires or unworthy arts of gain; but let our striving be to gain thy favour, to obtain from thee pardon and grace and holiness, having our conversation in heaven, from whence we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall change our vile body that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body according to the working whereby he is able to subdue all things unto himself. Amen.

COLLECT.

Almighty and merciful God, of whose only gift it cometh that thy faithful people do unto thee true and laudable service, grant, we beseech thee, that we may so faithfully serve thee in this life, that we fail not finally to obtain thy heavenly promises, through the merits of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

BENEDICTORY PRAYER.

G

TUESDAY MORNING.

AWAKE to righteousness and sin not, for some have not the knowledge of God.

But be ye followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

If sinners entice thee, consent thou not; walk not in the way with them, refrain thy foot from their path:

For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood. Be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind:

That ye may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

For godliness is profitable to all things, having the promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, to visit the fatherless and the widow in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

Glory be to the Father, &c.

PRAYER FOR PURITY AND UPRIGHTNESS.

Lord, evermore hear our prayers, and give us purity of heart and an upright mind:

That all sin and evil may be destroyed in us, and that we may be endued with strength to obey all thy commandments, and to serve thee always with a quiet mind, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Then shall all repeat

THE LORD'S PRAYER.
