PRAYER FOR SELF-DENIAL AND CHARITY.

Grant unto us, O Lord, that by the blessed example of our Saviour, who pleased not himself, but went about doing good, and commanded his followers continually to deny themselves and take up their cross, and follow him, so we may be constantly animated to every good word and work, that all the troubles we undergo may teach us more and more to know ourselves, that our sorrows may wean us from this present evil world, and being faithful in all the duties of our station, our light may so shine before men that they may see our good works, and glorify our Father which is in heaven. Enlarge our hearts with fervent charity, that we may be glad to distribute, and willing to communicate, laying

up for ourselves treasures in heaven, and thus the fruits of the Spirit may abound in us more and more, to the glory of God, through Jesus Christ. Amen.

COLLECT.

Almighty and everlasting God, grant us so perfectly and without all doubt to believe in thy Son Jesus Christ, that our faith in thy sight may never be reproved.

Hear us, O Lord, now and ever whensoever we call upon thee, through the same Jesus Christ, to whom, with thee and the Holy Ghost, be all honour and glory, now and ever. Amen.

BENEDICTORY PRAYER.

WEDNESDAY MORNING.

YE that fear the Lord, put your trust in the Lord, and see that ye keep all the Commandments of the Lord your God. Seek ye the Lord while he may be found.

Draw nigh unto God, and he will draw nigh unto you : he will not always be chiding, neither keepeth he his anger for ever.

For the Lord is gracious to all them that fear him; to such as put their trust in his mercy.

For he hath promised his blessing to them that love his name, throughout all generations.

The Lord is far from the wicked; but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.

The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord; but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

The righteous cry and the Lord heareth; and delivereth them out of all their troubles.

Glory be to the Father, &c.

PRAYER FOR PARDON.

O Lord, we beseech thee absolve thy people from their offences, that through thy bountiful goodness, we may all be delivered from the bonds of those sins which by our frailty we have committed. Grant this, O heavenly Father, for Jesus Christ's sake, our blessed Lord and Saviour. Amen.

Then shall all repeat

THE LORD'S PRAYER.

PRAYER FOR GOD'S PROTECTION, AND THE HOLY SPIRIT.

O Lord, our heavenly Father, who hath raised us up again in safety to the beginning of another day, extend thy fatherly goodness to us and to all men.

Keep us evermore under the protection of thy good Providence, and influence all our hearts by thy Holy Spirit to love and to serve thee every day with increased affection, abounding more and more in knowledge, and in all sound judgment and charity, approving those things that are excellent, that we may be diligent, sincere, and without offence, till the day of Christ.

Let thy loving kindness be more and more towards us, and all our friends and relations, and turn the hearts of all to thee, the living God. Be merciful, O heavenly Father, to the poor and the afflicted and the miserable, and relieve them out of all sorrow and distress, to the everlasting glory of thy holy name. Amen.

COLLECT.

Defend us, O Lord, this day and ever with thy heavenly grace, that we may continue thine for ever, and daily increase in thy Holy Spirit more and more, until we come to thy everlasting kingdom. Amen.

WEDNESDAY EVENING.

WOE unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight.

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil, which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him.

Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust, because they have cast away the law of the Lord of hosts, and despised the Word of the Holy One of Israel.

For the day of the Lord of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up, and he shall be brought low, and the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be laid low, and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day. Glory be to the Father, &c.

PRAYER FOR PARDON.

O Lord, we beseech thee mercifully to hear our prayers, and spare all those who confess their sins unto thee, that they whose consciences by sin are accused, by thy merciful pardon may be absolved, through Christ our Lord.

Then shall all repeat

THE LORD'S PRAYER.

COLLECT.

Lord, we pray thee that thy grace may always prevent and follow us, and make us continually to be given to all good works, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYER FOR WATCHFULNESS AND CIRCUMSPECTION.

O God! our only hope and strength, our present help in all trouble, show forth thy loving kindness to us this night, and keep us in peace and safety.

We know not what a day or an hour may bring forth, but this we are assured of, that thy mercy is ever more and more towards them that fear thee, wherefore grant, O Lord, that we may be watchful and circumspect in all our conduct, not allowing ourselves in any known sin, active in doing good wherever we have opportunity, looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith, who for our sakes endured the cross, despising the shame, by whose strength alone we can run the race that is set before us, and accomplish the work thou hast given us to do as his faithful followers, to whom, with thee and the Holy Ghost, be ascribed all glory and honor, for ever and ever. Amen.
