O God, who hast prepared for them that love thee such good things as pass man's understanding, pour into our hearts such love towards thee, that we, loving thee above all things, may obtain thy promises, which exceed all that we can desire, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Blessed Lord ! be pleased to keep us this day, through thy Holy Spirit, in a state of constant watchfulness and humility; that we may escape the pollutions of the world, and be devoutly given to serve thee in body and soul, not yielding up ourselves to be servants of sin and iniquity, but of righteousness and true holiness.

Be gracious, O Lord, to this our country, to our Sovereign the Queen, and all in authority under her, and to all mankind; that the precious promises of thy mercy may be known and felt, inducing all ranks and conditions of men to forsake evil, and to turn unto thee the living God, in all truth and sincerity of mind : finally, we pray for all who are afflicted or distressed in mind, body, or estate, that it may please thee to comfort and relieve them in all their troubles and necessities, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

I will seek unto God, and unto God will I commit my cause.

What time I am afraid, I will trust in him ; for he hath said, I will never leave thee nor forsake thee.

Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him ; for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed to him until that day.

Whom the Lord loveth, he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

Shall we receive good at the hand of the Lord, and shall we not receive evil ?

The Lord upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down.

Thou, Lord, art gracious and merciful, long suffering, and of great goodness, and never forsakest them that put their trust in thee.

Glory be to the Father, &c.

O God of our praise, who gave thine only Son to be betrayed and to suffer a cruel death for us miserable sinners, grant to us, that by the awful consideration of his death and sufferings, we may be driven to a sincere and salutary repentance, and obtain remission of our sins, and eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.

Then shall all repeat

THANKSGIVING. We bless thee, O Lord, for all the comforts and enjoyments of this our present state, of which thou hast given us largely to partake, and for thy unbounded goodness to us, our family, and friends this day; but chiefly for thine unspeakable love, in sending thy blessed Son our Lord Jesus Christ from heaven, to seek and to save that which was lost, and to rescue us from sin and death; by whose all-powerful mediation we may now draw near to thee in faith and confidence, beseeching thee to receive us into thy favour, and adopt us into thy family, as members of Christ, as children of God, and heirs of thy everlasting kingdom of heaven. Amen.

Merciful God, preserve us this night from all sin and danger; give us a convenient measure of refreshing sleep, and grant that we may in the morning rise again with renewed health and strength to glorify thy name; and by our daily endeavours to please thee, work out our salvation by the help of thy grace, through Jesus Christ.

Think of the Lord with a good heart, and in simplicity of heart seek him.

For he will be found of them that tempt him not, and showeth himself unto such as do not distrust him.

Therefore beware of murmuring, which is unprofitable, and refrain thy tongue from all slander, for there is no word so secret that shall go for nought, and the mouth that belieth, slayeth the soul.

The souls of the righteous are in the hands of God, and there shall no torment touch them.

Glorious is the fruit of good labours, and the root of wisdom shall never fall away.

Be filled with the Spirit, speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Glory be to the Father, &c.

LIFE. Let thy goodness, O Lord, lead us to repentance and holiness of life, and make us ever mindful of that strict account we must one day give at thy dread tribunal, and help us so diligently to improve all those talents and blessed advantages thou hast bestowed upon us, that we may give up our account with joy, and be found among the faithful followers of our only Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen. Then shall all repeat

COLLECT FOR CHARITY. O Lord, who hast taught us that all our doings without charity are nothing worth, send thy Holy Ghost, and pour into our hearts that most excellent gift of charity, the very bond of peace and of all virtues, without which whosoever liveth is counted dead before thee: grant this for thine only Son Jesus Christ's sake. Amen.

Visit us this day, O Lord, with thy salvation, and raise our affections to things above, while in our daily and necessary occupations we strive to acquit ourselves as Christian men, not slothful in business, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord.

We beseech thee to keep under thy constant protection ourselves, our friends, and relatives, and to have compassion on all mankind, turning the hearts of the disobedient to the wisdom of the just. We pray thee to pity and relieve all who are afflicted or distressed in mind, body, or estate, to comfort and help the weak-hearted, and to raise up them that fall, and finally to beat down Satan under our feet; that through thy mighty power we may all be preserved in body and soul unto eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
