TUESDAY EVENING.

MAN that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble: he cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down; he fleeth as a shadow, and continueth not.

His days are determined, they are as an hand-breadth; verily, every man at his best state is altogether vanity.

But wherefore doth a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?

For the Lord our God is merciful, full of compassion, and of great goodness. And the Lord will not cast off for ever; though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion, according to the multitude of his mercies.

He doth not afflict willingly, nor grieve the children of men; wherefore cast all your care upon him, for he careth for you, and he will abundantly pardon the penitent, and save to the uttermost all that trust in him.

Glory be to the Father, &c.

PRAYER FOR REPENTANCE AND THE HOLY SPIRIT.

We know, O Lord, that thine eyes are upon the sinful, to destroy them from off the face of the earth, but thy countenance is towards them that love thee throughout all generations; bless us therefore with true repentance and thy Holy Spirit, that we may obtain thy heavenly favour, and live henceforth to thy honour and glory, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Then shall all repeat

THE LORD'S PRAYER.

COLLECT.

O GOD, whose never-failing providence ordereth all things both in heaven and earth; we humbly beseech thee to put away from us all hurtful things, and to give us those things which be profitable for us, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THANKSGIVING.

Sing praises unto the Lord, O ye saints of his, and give thanks for a remembrance of his holiness; for his wrath endureth but the twinkling of an eye, and in his pleasure is life : heaviness may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. Preserve us, O Lord, this night from the spirits of darkness, under the shadow of thy wings. Thou hast kept our life from them that go down to the pit, thou hast showed us marvellous great kindness, and hast blessed us for ever. The greatness of thy glory reacheth unto the heavens, and thy truth unto the clouds; therefore shall every good man sing of thy praises without ceasing, he will give thee thanks for ever. Amen.

BENEDICTORY PRAYER.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.

WEDNESDAY MORNING.

OUR help standeth in the name of the Lord, who hath made heaven and earth.

Show the light of thy countenance upon thy servants, and we shall be safe.

Do well, O Lord, to them that be true of heart, and evermore mightily defend them.

Direct us in the truth, and teach us, for thou art our guide and Saviour.

Let us not be weary in well-doing; for in due time we shall reap, if we faint not.

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in us, will perform it unto the day of Jesus Christ. Who will render to every man, according to his deeds to them, who by patient continuance in well-doing, seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life. Glory be to the Father, &c.

COLLECT.

Grant, O Lord, that as we are baptised into the death of thy blessed Son our Saviour Jesus Christ, so by continual mortifying our corrupt affections, we may be buried with him; and that through the grave, and gate of death, we may pass to our joyful resurrection, for his merits, who died, and was buried, and rose again for us, thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Then shall all repeat

THE LORD'S PRAYER.

PRAYER FOR THE HOLY SPIRIT.

WE beseech thee, O Lord, to grant us this day thy Holy Spirit, that we may be strengthened to fulfil all our duties, and to resist all the temptations that may come upon us that we may not live to please ourselves, by the indulgence of any evil inclination, but that our chiefest aim may be to glorify thee, O God, and to do good in our generation, remembering that thine all-seeing eye is always upon us; we pray thee to give us a right understanding in all things, and grant that we may put our cheerful trust in thee, in every circumstance of this uncertain life, and continually abide in thy faith and fear, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

EJACULATION.

Now in all tribulation and anguish of spirit, in all dangers of soul and body, in prosperity and adversity, in the hour of death and in the day of judgment.

Holy and most blessed Saviour Jesus, who savest to the uttermost them that come unto thee, have mercy upon us, save and deliver us and all faithful people. Amen.

The grace

BENEDICTORY PRAYER.

of our Lord Jesus Christ, &c.

WEDNESDAY EVENING.

BEHOLD, God is our salvation, let us trust in him, and not be afraid; for the Lord Jehovah is our strength and our song, he also has become our salvation.

Whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father through him.

Put ye on the Lord Jesus, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about seeking whom he may destroy. Whom resist stedfast in the faith.

Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with all thy might; for the night cometh, when no man can work. Fear God, and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man.

Glory be to the Father, &c.

PRAYER FOR PARDON.

O Lord, we beseech thee with thy mercy to behold and relieve us thy servants, whose hope is fixed on thee. Put us not to rebuke for our many evil deeds, but pardon our numerous transgressions; suffer not our great enemy to prevail over us, but lead us safely through this world of unceasing trial, to thy heavenly kingdom of everlasting rest; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Then shall all repeat

THE LORD'S PRAYER.
