PRAYER FOR GRACE.

O blessed Jesus, who by thy death and passion hast delivered us from eternal punishment, give us grace to put our trust alone in the riches of thy mercy; always remembering our latter end, the vanity and shortness of our lives, the certainty of our departure, and having in view the glory and great reward which thou hast promised to all thy faithful followers. Teach us to despise the world and worldly things, and to lay up our treasure in heaven by charity and religious works. Let no corrupt communication proceed out of our mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace to the hearers; and make us stedfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as we know that our labour is not in vain in the Lord. Amen.

COLLECT.

We beseech thee, Almighty God, look upon the hearty desires of thy humble servants, and stretch forth the right hand of thy majesty to be our defence against all our enemies; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

BENEDICTORY PRAYER.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, &c.

THURSDAY MORNING.

THE day of the Lord so cometh, as a thief in the night. But ye are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

Ye are the children of light, and the children of the day ; we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

Therefore, let us not sleep as do others, but let us watch and be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and for an helmet the hope of salvation.

For God hath not appointed us unto wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ.

Who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

In whom we rejoice, whose strength is made perfect in our weakness, and in whose name, having our hope firm and sure, we thank God, and take courage.

Glory be to the Father, &c.

PRAYER FOR PARDON.

Grant, we beseech thee, merciful Lord, to thy faithful people pardon and peace, that they may be cleansed from all their sins, and serve thee with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Then shall all repeat

THE LORD'S PRAYER.

COLLECT.

Almighty Father, who hast given thine only Son to die for our sins, and to rise again for our justification; grant us so to put away the leaven of malice and wickedness, that we may always serve thee in pureness of living and truth ; through the merits of the same thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYER FOR CIRCUMSPECTION.

Give grace unto us thy servants, O Lord, that we may love and fear thee as we ought to do, and that we may be careful and circumspect in the discharge of all the duties thou hast given us to do in this life, that we may under thy good providence be useful to our fellow-creatures, and thereby adorn the Gospel of Christ, not rendering evil for evil unto any, but following that which is good towards all men, comforting the weak and feeble-minded, showing mercy and pity to the poor; that we may prove all things, and hold fast to that which is good, abstaining from all appearance of evil, in every thing giving thanks, and rejoicing in the Lord our Saviour; and grant that our whole spirit, and soul, and body may be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

BENEDICTORY PRAYER.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, &c.

THURSDAY EVENING.

To thee, O Lord our God, belongeth mercy and power, faithfulness and truth.

Thou art our rock and our fortress, and our deliverer. Our God, our strength, in whom we will trust, our buckler, the horn of our salvation, and our high tower.

We will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; so shall we be saved from our enemies.

We will keep the ways of the Lord, and not wickedly depart from our God.

For he is our God for ever and ever, he will be our guide unto death.

God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God; resist the devil, and he will flee from you; draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.

Glory be to the Father, &c.

COLLECT.

Almighty God, who seest that we have no power of ourselves to help ourselves; keep us both outwardly in our bodies, and inwardly in our souls, that we may be defended from all adversities which may happen to the body, and from all evil thoughts which may assault and hurt the soul; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Then shall all repeat

THE LORD'S PRAYER.

PRAYER FOR GRACE.

O Lord and heavenly Father, whose power is infinite and whose mercy is everlasting, accomplish the work of thy grace in all our hearts, that we may daily and diligently follow after the things pertaining unto our everlasting peace before they are hid from our eyes. Cause us to finish the work thou hast given us to do, that whenever thou shalt be pleased to call us hence, we may be ready and willing to depart in peace according to thy word, and resign our spirits without dread into thy gracious hands, trusting in the riches of thy grace and the saving merits of thy blessed Son; And for all that he has so wonderfully done for us men and for our salvation, for whatever of good thou hast graciously wrought in us, and for the hope of glory that thou hast given us, to thy name, O blessed God of our salvation, be the praise and honour now and for ever. Amen.

COLLECT.

O Lord, who never failest to help and govern them whom thou dost bring up in thy stedfast fear and love; keep us, we beseech thee, under the protection of thy good providence, and make us to have a perpetual fear and love of thy holy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

BENEDICTORY PRAYER.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, &c.
