FRIDAY MORNING.

If any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous, and he is the propitiation for our sins.

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us; but if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of.

Blessed is he whose unrighteousness is forgiven and whose sin is covered.

He that covereth his sins shall not prosper, but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

Enter not into judgment with thy servants, O Lord, for in thy sight shall no man living be justified.

Glory be to the Father, &c.

PRAYER FOR GODLY SORROW AND REPENTANCE.

O Lord our heavenly Father, we come before thee to confess our sins and transgressions that we have so often committed in thy sight; let them not separate us from thy tender love and compassion, but give unto us that godly sorrow which worketh repentance unto salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Then shall all repeat

THE LORD'S PRAYER.

COLLECT.

God, who didst teach the hearts of thy chosen people, by the sending to them the light of thy Holy Spirit; grant us by the same Spirit to have a right judgment in all things, and evermore to rejoice in his holy comfort, through the merits of Christ Jesus our Saviour, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the same Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen.

PRAYER AGAINST EVIL AND TROUBLE.

We humbly beseech thee, O Father, mercifully to look upon our infirmities; and for the glory of thy name turn from us all those evils that we most righteously have deserved; and grant that in all our troubles we may put our whole trust and confidence in thy mercy, and evermore serve thee in holiness and pureness of living to thy honour and glory; through our only Mediator and Advocate, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

BENEDICTORY PRAYER.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, &c.

FRIDAY EVENING.

DESPISE not the chastening of the Lord, neither be weary of his correction.

For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth, even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

In the world ye shall have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.

Rejoice in tribulation, and if ye be accounted worthy to suffer for the name of Jesus Christ.

For tribulation worketh patience, and patience experience, and experience hope.

The souls of the righteous are in the hand of the Lord, and there shall no torment touch them.

Though they be punished in the sight of men, yet is their hope full of immortality, and having been a little chastised, they shall be greatly rewarded; for God proved them, and found them worthy of himself; for the great Captain of our salvation was made perfect through suffering.

The servant is not greater than his master; if they have persecuted me, they will persecute you also. Glory be to the Father, &c.

PRAYER FOR SINCERE REPENTANCE.

We beseech thee, O Lord, to sanctify to us all thy fatherly corrections which we by our daily sins and wickedness most justly deserve; grant unto us sincere and persevering repentance, that we may so submissively receive thy visitations, that after this life is ended, we may dwell with thee in life everlasting.

Then shall all repeat

THE LORD'S PRAYER.

Amen.

PRAYER IN THE TIME OF AFFLICTION.

O God, merciful Father, that despisest not the sighing of a contrite heart, nor the desire of such as be sorrowful; mercifully assist our prayers that we make before thee in all our troubles and adversities whensoever they oppress us, and graciously hear us, that those evils which the craft and subtilty of the devil or man worketh against us be brought to nought, and by the providence of thy goodness they may be dispersed; that we thy servants being hurt by no persecutions may evermore give thanks unto thee in thy holy Church; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

COLLECT.

O Lord God Almighty, who didst endue thy holy Apostles with singular gifts of the Holy Ghost, leave us not, we beseech thee, destitute of thy manifold gifts, nor yet of grace to use them always to thy honour and glory, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

BENEDICTORY PRAYER.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, &c.

SATURDAY MORNING.

VERILY I say unto you, Except ye be converted and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.

Forasmuch as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind; for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin, that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.

Be ye therefore followers of God as dear children, and walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us and hath given himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

Glory be to the Father, &c.

PRAYER FOR PURITY.

We are not worthy of the least of all thy mercies, O Lord, so great and so many are our sins: we have loved the things of the world more than the things of God, and have been more disposed to evil than to good. Lord, help thou us, blot out our sins, and purify our souls with the waters of repentance and the blood of the cross, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Then shall all repeat

THE LORD'S PRAYER.
