WEDNESDAY MORNING.

THE law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

And herein God commendeth his love towards us, in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.

of man is come to save that which was lost.

For the Son

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind; and God is faithful, whọ will not suffer us to be tempted above that we are able, but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that we may be able to bear it.

And such trust have we through Christ to Godward, not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves, but our sufficiency is of God.

And the Lord shall deliver us from every evil work, and will preserve us unto his heavenly kingdom. Glory be to the Father, &c.

PRAYER FOR TRUE REPENTANCE.

Most merciful Saviour who came into the world not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance, suffer us not to be of the number of those who justify themselves by boasting of their own righteousness: give us grace to acknowledge ourselves as we are, wretched sinners, and unprofitable servants, and wholly to depend on thy merciful goodness with strong and unshaken faith, that in this world we may continually be brought to true repentance, seeing we continually sin, and take us in the world to come unto everlasting glory. Amen.

Then shall all repeat

THE LORD'S PRAYER.

PRAYER TO LEAD A GOOD LIFE.

O Lord, without whose help we are unable to do anything that is good, grant us grace we beseech thee, to be always occupied in doing good works as thou hast commanded in Holy Scripture, to thy honour and glory, and yet to trust only in the merits of Jesus Christ, and not in our good works, for remission of sins and acceptance in thy sight; give us grace to love thy holy name fervently, to search the Scriptures diligently, and to live after them effectually; order our lives so, O Lord, that they may be always acceptable unto thee.

In prosperity save us, that we wax not proud; in adversity help us, that we may not despair; but that we may take thy chastisements with humility and patience, trusting to be delivered in thy good pleasure. Grant that we may be content with our own without covetousness, that we may faithfully endeavour to instruct our household in thy holy laws, that we may obey our sovereign the Queen and all governors under her; unfeignedly rendering to every one their due. O Lord, grant us thus to do, for the glory of thy name. Amen.

COLLECT.

O God, our refuge and strength, who art the author of all godliness, be ready we beseech thee to hear the devout prayers of thy Church, and grant that those things which we ask faithfully we may obtain effectually; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

BENEDICTORY PRAYER.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, &c.

WEDNESDAY EVENING.

LOVE not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

Christ gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world; according to the will of God, and our Father. Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is Spirit; and they that are after the flesh, do mind the things of the flesh, but they that are after the Spirit, the things of the Spirit; for to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. For if ye live after the flesh ye shall die, but if ye, through the Spirit, do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

Glory be to the Father, &c.

PRAYER FOR THE RENEWAL OF THE HEART.

Blessed Lord, teach us frequently and in sadness to remember our sins, and to call to mind our great transgressions, and be thou pleased in mercy to remember them no more, but renew our hearts to righteousness, by the blessed Spirit of purity and holiness, that we may henceforth be delivered from the bondage of the world, and from all the fleshly corruptions of this mortal nature; and being daily more and more spiritually minded, we may pass from the death of sin to the life of righteousness in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.

Then shall all repeat

THE LORD'S PRAYER.

THANKSGIVING.

As the day is past, and the night draws on, cause us to lift up our hearts unto thee, O Lord, gracious and merciful, who art our peace, and our safety; blessed be thy holy name, for all the mercies thy never ceasing goodness has this day showered down upon us, providing for us in all our necessities, and setting us forward in our duties, and in the way to heaven.

Preserve us also this night, that we sleep not in sin, or death eternal; but whether we sleep or wake, live or die, we may be thy servants, and thy children; and when the work of life is done, we may find rest to our souls in the bosom of our Lord, who died for us men, and for our salvation, and who ever liveth to make intercession for us, Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, to day, and for ever. Amen.

COLLECT.

O Almighty God, who hast knit together thine elect in one communion and fellowship, in the mystical body of thy Son Christ our Lord, grant us grace so to follow thy blessed Saints in all virtuous and godly living, that we may come to those unspeakable joys, which thou hast prepared for them that unfeignedly love thee, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

BENEDICTORY PRAYER,

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, &c.

THURSDAY MORNING.

THE Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished, but chiefly them who walk after the flesh, in the lust of uncleanness.

Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshy lusts, which war against the soul.

Flee from evil, and do the thing that is good, and dwell for evermore.

For the Lord loveth the thing that is right, he forsaketh not his that be godly, but they are preserved for ever.

For ye are the temple of the living God, as God hath said, "I will dwell in them, and walk in them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people."

The salvation of the righteous cometh of the Lord, who is also their strength in the time of trouble. And the Lord shall stand by them, and save them: he shall deliver them, because they put their trust in him.

Glory be to the Father, &c.

COLLECT FOR ABSTINENCE.

O Lord, who for our sake did fast forty days and forty nights, give us grace to use such abstinence, that our flesh being subdued to the spirit, we may ever obey thy godly motions in righteousness and true holiness, to thy honour and glory, who livest and reignest with the Father and the Holy Ghost, one God, world without end. Amen.

Then shall all repeat

THE LORD'S PRAYER.
