again, as I did once from the deep of the sea.

Sing unto God, O ye kingdoms of the earth; O sing praises unto the Lord; Who sitteth in the heavens over all, from the beginning; lo, he doth send out his voice, yea, and that a mighty voice.

Ascribe ye the power to God; his excellency is over Israel; his strength is in the clouds.

O God, wonderful art thou in thy holy places; the God of Israel will give strength and power unto his people; blessed be God.

PSALM 78.

HEAR my law, O my people; incline your ears unto the words of my mouth.

I will open my mouth in a parable; I will declare hard sentences of old;

Which we have heard and known, and such as our fathers have told us;

That we should not hide them from the children of the generations to come, but to show the honour of the Lord, his mighty and wonderful works that he hath done.

He made a covenant with Jacob, and gave Israel a law, which he commanded our forefathers to teach their children;

That their posterity might know it, and the children who were yet unborn;

To the intent that when they came up, they might show their children the same;

That they might put their trust in God, and not to forget the works of God, but to keep his commandments.

Now unto the King eternal, &c.

EVENING PRAYER.

PSALM 44.

WE have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what thou hast done in their time of old;

How thou hast driven out the heathen with thy hand, and planted them in ; how thou hast destroyed the nations, and cast them out.

For they gat not the land in possession through

their own sword, neither was it their own arm that helped them;

But thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.

Thou art my King, O God; send help unto Jacob.

For I will not trust in my bow; it is not my sword that shall help me.

But it is thou who savest us from our enemies, and puttest them to confusion who hate us.

We make our boast of God all day long, and will praise thy name for ever.

PSALM 105.

O GIVE thanks unto the Lord, and call upon his name; tell the people what things he hath done.

O let your songs be of him, and praise him; and let your talking be of all his wondrous works.

Rejoice in his holy name; let the heart of those rejoice who seek the Lord.

Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his face

evermore.

Even the covenant that he made with Abraham, and the oath that he sware unto Isaac ;

And appointed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting testament;

Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance.

When there were yet but a few of them, and they strangers in the land;

What time as they went from one nation to another, from one kingdom to another people;

He suffered no man to do them wrong, but reproved even kings for their sakes;

Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.

And he brought forth

his people with joy, and his chosen with gladness; And gave them the lands of the heathen; and they took the labours of the people in possession ;

That they might keep his statutes, and observe his laws.

A SERVICE

FOR DAYS OF THANKSGIVING.

The Minister may use the common Service for Morning or Evening Prayer, till he comes to the Psalms for the Day of the Month; instead of which, the following Psalms are to be said.

He shall subdue the people under us, and the nations under our feet.

He shall choose out an heritage for us, even the excellency of Jacob whom he loved.

God is gone up with a shout, and the Lord with the sound of the trumpet.

[blocks in formation]

O sing praises, sing for it is a good thing to praises unto our God; O sing praises unto our God;

yea, a joyful and pleasant thing it is to be thankful. The Lord doth build up Jerusalem, and gather together the outcasts of Israel.

He healeth those who are broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.

He telleth the number of the stars; and calleth them all by their names.

Great is our Lord, and great is his power; yea, and his wisdom is infinite.

The Lord lifteth up the meek; and bringeth the ungodly down to the ground.

O sing unto the Lord with thanksgiving; sing praises upon the harp unto our God;

Who covereth the heaven with clouds, and prepareth rain for the earth, and maketh the grass to grow upon the mountains;

Who giveth fodder unto the cattle, and feedeth the young ravens who cry.

He hath no pleasure in the strength of the horse; neither delighteth he in the force of man.

But the Lord's delight is in those who fear him, and put their trust in his

rusalem; praise thy God, O Sion.

For he hath made fast the bars of thy gates; and hath blessed thy children within thee.

He maketh peace in thy borders; and filleth thee with the finest of the wheat.

He sendeth forth his commandment upon earth; and his word is instantly obeyed.

He giveth snow like wool; he scattereth the hoarfrost like ashes.

He casteth forth his ice like morsels; who can stand before his cold?

He sendeth out his word and melteth them; he bloweth with his wind, and the waters flow.

He showeth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and ordinances unto Israel.

He hath not dealt so with any nation; neither have the heathen knowledge of his laws. Praise ye the Lord.

PSALM 150. PRAISE ye the Lord. Praise God for his holiness. Praise him in the firmament of his power.

Praise him for his noble acts; praise him according
