It was Monday morning of any week, of any month, and of any year. It was five o'clock in the morning and the bed room door was opening. My great grandmother, my grandmother, or my aunt would peek into the room and announce that it was time for Early Morning Prayer. All persons in the household, including house guests, were awakened in the same manner. The mandatory rule was that everyone would present themselves in the living room for prayer. It was 1980, some 45 days after a terrible accident that caused me to reconsider the path I was taking. Born to a family very Christian in our beliefs, I knew my life choices were outside of God's will. Having faced death and seen my life flash before me during the accident, I could hear the Creator/God's small voice asking the question; "Wendell aren't you tired of running from me yet?" My Optometrist specialist made it clear that I would never see well enough to read, drive, or ever work again, at the ripe old age of 30. Yet God had a much different prognosis! Born in the projects - Federal supported housing- in West Tampa, Florida; Appointed on the staffs of Governor Jerry Brown in California and President of the United States, George H.W. Bush; God has shown me over the past 25 years that he had a better idea for this child of his. It is true that God's intervention in the life of this partially blind Christian author and renowned musician has been a wondrous and winding road and I thank God for his faith in my willingness to do his will.
