73 Thou with man art pleased to dwell, God with us, Immanuel. BE L. M. EFORE Jehovah's awful throne, 2 His sovereign power, without our aid, Made us of clay, and formed us men; And when, like wandering sheep, we strayed, He brought us to his fold again. 3 We are thy people, we thy care; Our souls, and all our mortal frame; What lasting honours shall we rear, Almighty Maker, to thy name? 4 We'll crowd thy gates with thankful songs, High as the heaven our voices raise; And earth, with her ten thousand tongues, Shall fill thy courts with sounding praise. 5 Wide as the world is thy command; Vast as eternity thy love; Firm as a rock thy truth shall stand, When rolling years shall cease to move. BE joyful in God, all ye lands of the earth! Q! serve him with gladness and fear; Exult in his presence with music and mirth, With love and devotion draw near. 2 Jehovah is God, and Jehovah alone, Creator and Ruler o'er all; And we are his people-his sceptre we own; His sheep, and we follow his call. 3 O! enter his gates with thanksgiving and song, Our vows in his temple proclaim; His praise in melodious accordance prolong, And bless his adorable name. 4 For good is the Lord, inexpressibly good, 75 WE C. M. E love thy holy temple, Lord, 2 There, in thy pure and cleansing fount, Washed from each guilty stain, Our souls on wings of faith shall mount 3 Around thine altar will we kneel A Saviour's mercy deeply feel, 4. Or, mingling with the choral throng, And pour the full, melodious song, HOSANNA to the living Lord! Hosanna to th' incarnate Word! To Christ, Creator, Saviour, King, Let earth, let heaven, Hosanna sing. 2 Hosanna, Lord! thine angels cry; Hosanna, Lord! thy saints reply: Above, beneath us, and around, The dead and living swell the sound. 4 But, chiefest, in our cleansed breast, And make our secret soul to be 5 So, in the last and dreadful day, HOW lovely are thy dwellings, Lord, From noise and trouble free! How beautiful the sweet accord 2 Lord God of hosts, that reign'st on high! They are the truly blest, In thee alone will rest. 3 They pass refreshed the thirsty vale, As through a fruitful, watery dale, 4 They journey on from strength to strength, With joy and gladsome cheer, LORD, to thy sacred house We come with willing feet, In full assembly meet. Thy power divine shall here be shown, 20 send thy light abroad! Thy truth with heavenly ray And guide our doubtful way. We'll hear thy word with faith sincere, 3 Reach forth thy bounteous hand, Here health and strength divine Like balmy dew shall Jesus' voice, 4 Then in thy holy hill, Before thine altar, Lord, Henceforth to thee, O God of grace, 03OFT, in the temples of thy grace, Thy saints, O Lord, behold thy face; And oft have seen thy glory shine, With power and majesty divine: 2 But soon, alas! thine absence mourn, And pray, and wish thy kind return; Without thy life-inspiring light, 'Tis all a scene of gloomy night. 3 Return, O Lord, thy children cry, Our graces droop, our comforts die; Return, and let thy glory rise Again, to our admiring eyes: 4 Till filled with light, and joy, and love, Thy courts below, like those above, Triumphant hallelujahs raise, And heaven and earth resound thy praise. TO thy temple we repair, Lord, we love to worship there, 2 Thou through him art reconciled, |
