Fear and distrust remove:
Oh, bear me safe above,
A ransom'd soul.

55

I

12s, 9s.

THINK, when I read that sweet story of old,

When Jesus was here among men,

How he call'd little children as lambs to his

fold,

I should like to have been with them then.

2 I wish that his hands had been placed on my

head,

That his arm had been thrown around me, And that I might have seen his kind look when he said,

"Let the little ones come unto me."

3 Yet still to his footstool in prayer I may go, And ask for a share in his love;

And if I thus earnestly seek him below,
I shall see him and hear him above,

4 In that beautiful place he is gone to prepare For all who are wash'd and forgiven:

And many dear children are gathering there, "For of such is the kingdom of heaven."

HOLY Bible! book divine!

Precious treasure! thou art mine!

Mine, to tell me whence I came;

Mine, to teach me what I am.

2 Mine, to chide me when I rove; Mine, to show a Savior's love;

Mine, art thou to guide my feet;
Mine, to judge, condemn, acquit.
3 Mine, to comfort in distress,
If the Holy Spirit bless;
Mine, to show by living faith
Man can triumph over death.

4 Mine, to tell of joys to come,
And the rebel sinner's doom;
O thou precious book divine!
Precious treasure! thou art mine!

OW vain is all beneath the skies!

H How transient ev'ry earthly bliss!

How slender all the fondest ties

That bind us to a world like this!
How slender all the fondest ties

That bind us to a world like this!

2 The evening cloud, the morning dew,
The with ring grass, the fading flower,
Of earthly hopes are emblems true-
The glory of a passing hour.

Of earthly hopes are emblems true—
The glory of a passing hour.

3 But though earth's fairest blossoms die,
And all beneath the skies is vain,
There is a brighter world on high,
Beyond the reach of care and pain.

4 Then let the hope of joys to come

Dispel our cares, and chase our fears: If God be ours, we're traveling home, Though passing through a vale of tears.

UST Jesus bear the cross alone,

M and all the world

go free? No, there's a cross for every one, And there's a cross for me.

How happy are the saints above,
Who once went sorrowing here!
But now they taste unmingled love,
And joy without a tear.

3 The consecrated cross I'll bear
Till death shall set me free;

59

And then go home my crown to wear,
For there's a crown for me.

6s, 4s.

NNearer to thee:

JEARER, my God, to thee,

E'en though it be a cross
That raiseth me,

Still all my song shall be,
Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer to thee.

2 Tho' like a wanderer,
Daylight all gone,

Darkness be over me,
My rest a stone,

Yet in my dreams I'd be,
Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer to thee.

3 There let the way appear
Steps up to heaven;

All that thou sendest me
In mercy given,

Angels to beckon me,
Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer to thee.

4 Then with my waking thoughts,
Bright with thy praise,
Out of my stony griefs,
Bethel I'll raise;

So by my woes to be
Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer to thee.

5 Or if on joyful wing,
Cleaving the sky,

Sun, moon, and stars forgot,
Upward I fly,

Still all my song shall be,
Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer to thee.

8s, 7s.

AVIOR, like a shepherd lead us,
Much we need thy tend'rest care;
In thy pleasant pastures feed us,
For our use thy folds prepare.
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,

Thou hast bought us, thine we are.
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,
Thou hast bought us, thine we are.

2 We are thine, do thou befriend us,
Be the Guardian of our way;
Keep thy flock, from sin defend us,

Seek us when we go astray.
Blessed Jesus,

Hear, O hear us, when we pray.

3 Thou hast promised to receive us,
Poor and sinful though we be;
Thou hast mercy to relieve us,
Grace to cleanse, and power to free.
Blessed Jesus,

We will early turn to thee.

4 Early let us seek thy favor,
Early let us do thy will;
Blessed Lord and only Savior,
With thy love our bosoms fill.
Blessed Jesus,

61

Thou hast loved us, love us still.

THER

P. M.

HERE is an hour of peaceful rest
To mourning wand'rers given;
There is a joy for souls distressed,
A balm for ev'ry wounded breast;
'Tis found alone in heaven.

2 There is a home for weary souls,
By sins and sorrows driven,
When tossed on life's tempestuous shoals,
Where storms arise and ocean rolls,
And all is drear but heaven.

8 There faith lifts up the tearless eye-
The heart no longer riven-

And views the tempest passing by,
Sees evening shadows quickly fly,
And all serene in heaven.
