To thy temple I repair ;

Lord, I love to worship there,
When within the vail I meet

Thee before the mercy seat.
2 While thy glorious praise is sung,

Touch my lips, unloose my tongue ;
That my joyful soul may bless

Thee, the Lord, our righteousness.
3 While the prayers of saints ascend,

God of love! to mine attend :
Hear me, for thy Spirit pleads;

Hear, for Jesus intercedes.
4 From thine house when I return,

May my heart within me burn;
And at evening let me say,
“I have walked with God to-day.”

Ps. 27 : 8, 9.

HAMMOND. ORD! we come befcre thee now;

L At thy

feet we humbly bow";

Oh! do not our suit disdain ;

Shall we seek thee, Lord, in vain ?
2 Lord! on thee our souls depend,

In compassion, now descend :
Fill our hearts with thy rich grace;
Tune our lips to sing thy praise.

3 Send some message from thy word,

That may joy and peace afford ;
Let thy Spirit now impart

Full salvation to each heart.

The peace of God." Phil. 4 : 7.
OFTLY fades the twilight ray

Of the holy Sabbath day:
Gently as life's setting sun,

When the Christian's course is run.
2 Peace is on the world abroad;

'Tis the holy peace of God;
Symbol of the peace within,

When the spirit rests from sin.
3 Still the Spirit lingers near

Where the evening worshiper
Seeks communion with the skies,

Pressing onward to the prize.
4 Saviour, may our Sabbaths be

Days of peace and joy in thee!
Till in heaven our souls repose,
Where the Sabbath ne'er shall close.
The night cometh."

DOANI
OFTLY now the light of day

Fades upon my sight away:
Free from care, from labor free,

Lord ! I would commune with thee.
2 Soon for me the light of day

Shall forever pass away ;
Then, from sin and sorrow free,
Take, me, Lord! to dwell with thee.

Be filled with the Spirit.Eph. 5 : 18.
YOME, Holy Spirit, heavenly Dove,

Kindle a flame of sacred love

In these cold hearts of ours.
2 Look, how we grovel here below,

Fond of these trifling toys !
Our souls can neither fly nor go

To reach eternal joys.
3 In vain we tune our formal songs ;

In vain we strive to rise:
Hosannas languish on our tongues,

And our devotion dies.
4 Come, Holy Spirit, heavenly Dove,

With all thy quickening powers !
Come, shed abroad a Saviour's love,

And that shall kindle ours.

Acts 2:1-5.
PIRIT Divine ! attend our prayer,

And make our hearts thy home:
Descend with all thy gracious power:

Come, Holy Spirit, come!
2 Come as the light; to us reveal

Our sinfulness and woe;
And lead us in those paths of life

Where all the righteous go.

3 Come as the fire, and purge our hearts,

With sacrificial flame;
Let our whole soul an offering be,

To our Redeemer's name.
4 Come as the wind, with rushing sound,

With Pentecostal grace ;
And make the great salvation known,

Wide as the human race.

Luke 11 : 13.

J. BURTON

O !

Attend our humble cry:
And let thy servants share

Thy blessing from on high :
We plead the promise of thy word ;
Grant us thy Holy Spirit, Lord !
2 If earthly parents hear

Their children when they cry;
If they, with love sincere,

Their children's wants supply ;
Much more wilt thou thy love display,
And answer when thy children pray.
3 Our heavenly Father, thou :

We, children of thy grace:
Oh, let thy Spirit now

Descend and fill the place!
That all may feel the heavenly flame,
And all unite to praise thy name.

[blocks in formation]

Great Comforter! descend and bring

Some tokens of thy grace.
2 Dost thou not dwell in all thy saints,

And seal them heirs of heaven?
When wilt thou banish my complaints,

And show my sins forgiven ?
3 Assure my conscience of her part

In my Redeemer's blood;
And bear thy witness with my heart,

That I am born of God.
4 Thou art the earnest of his love,

The pledge of joys to come;
And thy soft wings, celestial Dove,

Will safe convey me home.

UR blest Redeemer, ere he breathed

His tender last farewell,
A Guide, a Comforter bequeathed

With us on earth to dwell.
