116 HEAVENLY FATHER, may Thy love
Beam upon us from above;
In Thy covenant of grace!
Listen to our humble prayer;
Cleanse this child from nature's guilt.
Thou this infant sanctify;
Holy Spirit, Three in One,
CONFIRMATION. 117 ONCE to other lords we bow'd ;
None were more enslav'd than we;
Saviour, now we come to Thee.
How we slighted all Thy love;
And against Thy mercy strove.
Thine alone, for ever Thine:
118 LORD, shall Thy children come to Thee?
- A boon of love Divine we seek :
2 Lord, shall we come,-and come again?
Oft as we see yon table spread,
The wine poured out, the broken bread,
3 Lord, shall we come ?—not thus alone,
At holy time, or solemn rite,
Through weal or woe, in gloom or light,
119 THY solemn vows are on me, Lord;
Thou shalt receive my praise ;
How righteous are Thy ways :
2 Thou hast redeem'd my soul from death :
Oh set Thy pris'ner free,
THE LORD'S SUPPER. 120. M Y God, and is Thy table spread ?
And does Thy cup with love o'erflow?
And let them all its sweetness know.
Rich banquet of his flesh and blood !
That sacred stream, that heavenly food ! 3 O let Thy table honour'd be,
And furnished well with joyful guests;
121 COME, my soul, in faith draw nigh :
v Corne, and taste a Saviour's love:
See Him pleading now above.
Shed, from sin to set thee free:
Bruis'd and torn with nails for thee.
To Thy table I repair.
Till with sacred joy I burn,
122 BREAD of the world, in mercy broken,
D Wine of the soul, in mercy shed,
And in whose death our sins are dead,
Look on the tears by sinners shed, : And be Thy feast to us the token
That by Thy grace our souls are fed.
193 BRETHREN, come ! our Saviour bids
Bids us to a feast of love: [us,
With provision from above !
2 Let us think of Him who bought us ;
'Tis the Saviour's own command :
Now He leads us by the hand :
3 Oh, how much his people owe Him,
For the love that He has shown !
All that once we call'd our own :
124 To Thee, O Lord our God, we come!
For Thou art great, and Thou art good; Around Thy throne we know there's room, And on Thy table richest food.
2 'Tis sweet to know, that all we need
Is found in Him, by whom we live :
125 ABBA, Father, while we sing,
- Hear the thankful praise we bring ;
2 By the Holy Spirit led,
Nourish'd with celestial bread,
3 What, though trials wait us here,
Christ endur'd what we must bear;
