Perfection of the Law and Testimony.. Ps. 19.

1 THY law is perfect, Lord of light,
Thy testimonies sure;

The statutes of thy realm are right,
And thy commandments pure.

2 Holy, inviolate thy fear,
Enduring as thy throne;
judgments-chastening or severe
Justice and truth alone.

Thy

3 Let these, O God, my soul convert,
And make thy servant wise;
Let these be gladness to my heart,
The day-spring to mine eyes.
4 By these may I be warned betimes;
Who knows the guile within?
Lord, save me from presumptuous crimes,
Cleanse me from secret sin.

5 So may the words my lips express,
The thoughts that throng my mind,
O Lord, my strength and righteousness!
With thee acceptance find.

Influence of the Sun of Righteousness.

1 How blest thy creature is, O God,
When, with a single eye,

He views the lustre of thy word,
The day-spring from on high!

2 Through all the storms that veil the skies
And frown on earthly things,

The Sun of Righteousness he eyes,
With healing on his wings.

3 Struck by that light, the human heart,
A barren soil no more,

Sends the sweet smell of grace abroad,
Where serpents lurked before.

4 The soul, a dreary province once
Of Satan's dark domain,

Feels a new empire formed within,
And owns a heavenly reign.

5 The glorious orb, whose golden beams
The fruitful year control,
Since first, obedient to thy word,
He started from the goal,-

6 Has cheered the nations with the joys
His orient rays impart;
But, Jesus, 'tis thy light alone
Can shine upon the heart.

"A Fountain opened.'

1 THERE is a fountain filled with blood,
Drawn from Immanuel's veins;

And sinners, plunged beneath that flood,
Lose all their guilty stains.

2 The dying thief rejoiced to see
That fountain in his day;
may I there, though vile as he,
Wash all my sins away!

O

3 Dear, dying Lamb, thy precious blood
Shall never lose its power,

Till all the ransomed church of God
Be saved, to sin no more.

4 E'er since, by faith,

saw the stream

Thy flowing wounds supply,

Redeeming love has been my theme,
And shall be, till I die.

5 Then, in a nobler, sweeter song,
I'll sing thy power to save,

When this poor, lisping, stammering tongue
Lies silent in the grave.

Song of the Church Universal.

1 SING We the song of those who stand
Around th' eternal throne,

Of every kindred, clime, and land,
A multitude unknown.

2 Life's poor distinctions vanish here;
To-day the young, the old,
Our Savior and his flock, appear
One Shepherd and one fold.
3 Toil, trial, suffering, still await
On earth the pilgrim's throng;
Yet learn we in our low estate
The church triumphant's song.
4Worthy the Lamb for sinners slain,'
Cry the redeemed above,
'Blessing and honor to obtain,
And everlasting love.'

[ocr errors]

5 Worthy the Lamb,' on earth we sing,
Who died our souls to save;

Henceforth, O death! where is thy sting?
Thy victory, O grave?'

6 Then hallelujah! power and praise
To God in Christ be given;

May all who now this anthem raise,
Renew the song in heaven.

The Martyrs in Glory.

ANONYMOUS.

1 How bright these glorious spirits shine!
Whence all their white array?

How came they to the blissful seats
Of everlasting day?

2 Lo! these are they, from sufferings great,
Who came to realms of light,

And in the blood of Christ have washed
Those robes which shine so bright.

3 Now with triumphal palms they stand
Before the throne on high,

And serve the God they love, amidst
The glories of the sky.

4 Hunger and thirst are felt no more,
Nor suns with scorching ray;

God is their sun, whose cheering beams
Diffuse eternal day.

5 The Lamb which dwells amidst the throne
Shall o'er them still preside,
Feed them with nourishment divine,
And all their footsteps guide.

6 'Mong pastures green he'll lead his flock,
Where living streams appear;

And God the Lord from every eye
Shall wipe off every tear.

The River of Life.

DODDRIDGE.

1 GREAT Source of being and of love!
Thou waterest all the worlds above;
And all the joys which mortals know,
From thine exhaustless fountain flow.

2 A sacred spring, at thy command,
From Sion's mount, in Canaan's land,
Beside thy temple cleaves the ground,
And pours its limpid stream around.
3 This gentle stream, with sudden force,
Swells to a river in its course;
Through desert realms its windings play,
And scatter blessings all the way.
Close by its banks, in order fair,
The blooming trees of life appear;
Their blossoms fragrant odors give,
And on their fruit the nations live.

5 Flow, wondrous stream! with glory crowned,
Flow on to earth's remotest bound;
And bear us, on thy gentle wave,
To him who all thy virtues gave.

A Time of Refreshing.

1 THE little cloud increases fast,
In heaven are signs of rain;

ANONYMOUS.

We wait to feel the heavenly shower,

And all its moisture drain.

2 A rill, a stream, a torrent flows!
But pour a mighty flood;

O! sweep the nations shake the earth -
Till all proclaim thee God.
