5 When in the slippery paths of youth
With heedless steps I ran,

Thine arm, unseen, conveyed me safe,
And led me up to man.

6 Through hidden dangers, toils, & death, It gently cleared away;

And through the pleasing snares of vice,
More to be feared than they.

2 When nature fails, and day and night
Divide thy works no more;
My ever grateful heart, O Lord!
Thy mercies shall adore.

HYMN 71.-L. M.

A To God the song of triumph raise; WAKE, my soul, to hymns of praise

Adorned with Majesty. divine,

What pomp, what glory, Lord are thine,

2 Light forms his robe, and round hi

head

The heavens their ample curtain spread;
See on the wind's expanded wings
The chariot of the King of kings.

3 Around him ranged in awful state, Dark, silent storms attentive wait; And thunders ready to fulfil

The mandates of his sovereign will.

4 From earths low margin to the skies,
He bids the dusky vapors rise!
Then from his magazines on high,
Commands th' imprisoned wings to fly.

5 The lightning's palid sheet expands, And showers descend on furrowed lands; While down the mountain's channeled side

The torrent rolls in swelling pride.

Till spent its wild impetuous force,
And settled in its destined course,
It waters all the fruitful plains,
And life in various forms sustaina.

7 Thus clouds, and storms, and fires obey
Thy wise and all-controlling sway;
And while thy terrors round us stand,
We see a father's bounteous hand.

HYMN 72.-8 & 7s. M.

Surrounding the Mercy-seat

NAR from mortal cares retreating,

Frond hopes and vain desires,

Here our willing footsteps meeting,
Every heart to heaven aspires.
From the fount of glory beaming,
Light celestial cheers our eyes;
Mercy from above procla ming
Peace and pardon from the skies.

2 Who may share this great salvation?
Every pure and humble min;
Every kindred, tongue, and nation,
From the dross of guilt refined,
Blessings all around bestowing,
God withholds his care from none;
Grace and Mercy ever flowing
From the fountain of his throne.

3 Every stain of guilt confessing, Deed unrighteous, thought of sin.

Seize, O seize the proffered blessing,
Grace from God and peace within.
Lord; with favor still attend us,

Bless us with thy wondrous love;
Thou, our sun and shield, defend us;
All our hope is from above.

HYMN 73.-P. M.

ANDERING

christians,

pilgrims,, mourning

Weak and tempted lambs of Christ,
Who endure great tribulation,
And with sins are much distress'd,
Christ hath sent me to invite you
To a rich and costly feast;

Let not shame nor pride prevent you.
Come, the sweet provision taste.

2 If you have a heart lamenting,
And bemoan your wretched case,
Come, to Jesus Christ repenting,
He will give you gospel grace.
If you want a heart to fear him,
Love and serve him all your days,
Only come to Christ and ask him,
He will guide your feet always.

3 If your heart is unbelieving,

Doubting Jesus' pardoning love,
Lay hard by Bethesda waiting,
Till the troubled waters move;
If no man appears to help vou,
All their efforts prove but talk,
Jesus, Jesus, he will cleanse you,
Rise, take up thy bed and walk,

4 If like Peter you are sinking
In the sea of unbelief,

Wait with patience, always praying,
Christ will send you sweet relief,
He will give you grace and glory,
All your wants shall be suppli'd,
Canaan, Canaan lies before you,
Rise and cross the swelling tide.

5 Death shall not destroy your comfort, guard you through th

Christ wll

gloom,

Down he'll send a heavenly convoy
To convey you to his home,

There you'll spend your days
pleasure,

Free from ev'ry want and care;
Come, O come, my blessed Saviour,
Fain my spirit would be there.
